  • Penang: Malaysian Yummy

by dzni Written Sep 9, 2004

This is one of the best Asian restaurants I've been to. They specialize in Malaysian and Chinese food, but everything is great here! Not sure what else to say, but it's one of my favorite restaurants in Princeton.

Favorite Dish: Homemade tofu dish... this is probably unlike most tofu you've ever had. It's really quite delicious, and I would give it a try even if you don't think you like tofu.

  • Mexican

by dzni Written Sep 9, 2004

There are two good Mexican restaurants. My favorite is a whole-in-the-wall, whose name I can't find or remember. It's located on Witherspoon on the left, shortly before you get to the hospital. Really good and pretty cheap.

The other place is at Princeton Shopping Center on Harrison. Don't remember the name of this one either, but it's yummy too.

  • Buck's County Coffee Co.: More Coffee

by dzni Written Sep 9, 2004

Not as good as Small World Coffee, and definitely a smaller store. However, the coffee here is pretty good and if you're looking for a quieter atmosphere than Small World, this is the place to go. Makes a good place to study sometimes.

  • Fedora Cafe: An Eclectic Cafe

by dzni Written Sep 9, 2004

This might just be my favorite place to eat in the whole Princeton area! First of all, the coffee is a nice, good cup of joe, which always sweetens the deal for me. Most importantly, though, this eclectic cafe has some of the best sandwiches, soups, and salads at lunchtime. Also, they have a great selection of desserts and pastries from which to choose!! I highly recommend everything here! The people here are very friendly too, and I'm afraid they're starting to recognize me!

  • Nassau St. Seafood: Seafood

While this appears to be just a fresh seafood market, it also sells cooked seafood box lunches at lunchtime (go figure). The seafood here is to die for! :) It's really quite good and I highly recommend it for lunch.

Favorite Dish: Soft shell crab sandwich, in season.

  • Witherspoon Bread Co.: Fresh-baked!

by dzni Written Sep 9, 2004

I actually have never tried the bread here, but it looks wonderful. I HAVE tried the baked goods, such as almond croissants and cinnamon rolls, of which all are wonderful!

Favorite Dish: Cinnamon/Walnut Roll and Almond Croissant. The Chocolate Brioche is great too.

  • Mediterra: Mediterranean Food

by dzni Written Sep 9, 2004

While the food here is indeed very good, I just wasn't pleased with the price/quality ratio. This seems to be a bit more expensive than you average restaurant, but the food didn't seem to be any better than what I could find at someplace a little less expensive. However, don't discount this place just because of me. The food is Mediterranean, and the service and inside is very nice. They also have a good wine selection.

Small, but very good Italian restaurant. They have an extensive number of pasta dishes, as well as some tasty individual pizzas. Everything is good here, and the price won't break you like some of the other restaurants.

Meat is generally good (lamb very good....). Friendly atmosphera gets croweded in the bar area after dinner by local people. The smoking section is located outside in a covered patio open all year long. Good food, and wine list.

Favorite Dish: Lamb chops.....The quality is great.

Forrestal Village Convenience Store: Not Bad for a Food Court

    Forestal Village Food Court Building

For a quick lunch time meal, it was simple to leave the offices where we were working and walk a block or two to the local fast food court. It has the usual assortment of Pizza, Greek, Chinese, Sushi, Hamburger, Submarine etc. restaurants lined up around a nice indoor eating area. The service was fast and the food was quite good as well.

Favorite Dish: I had two good meals, one Chinese and the other a vegetarian Pizza. The prices were very cheap as well.

Sunny Garden: New Jersey's 2nd Best Chinese Restaurant

    by Bwana_Brown Updated Oct 4, 2003

    Street View of 'Sunny Garden'

The Sunny Garden is a nice and straightforward Chinese restaurant that serves great food without a lot of fuss. I ate here with a group one evening during my Oct/03 visit to Princeton and we were quickly sat down around a big circular table without any reservations having been made (a Thursday night). The interior is simple but elegant and the service is quick and efficient. A 2003 Zagat survey of 850 restaurants in New Jersey rated the Sunny Garden as the 2nd best Chinese establishment in New Jersey and they were rated as 17th in the best food for your buck category! I certainly would agree with their rating based on my excellent experience there!

Favorite Dish: I ordered the $15 spicey Mango Beef in Tamarind Sauce dish with boiled rice. This consists of fresh mango and flank steak stir-fried with sweetened tamarind sauce and garnished with refreshing jicana strips. The dish had just the right amount of spice and the beef was tender! Pots of chinese tea and snack sticks with a plum-like dipping sauce were provided on the rotatable circular center part of the table.

There were so many, it was hard to choose. Finally hunger got the better of me and I stopped in Olives Deli.
I worked in an Italian deli as a kid, and know my Italian sandwhiches... this one was amazing. Take it with you to the park area in Palmer Square. Grab a bench and enjoy the day.

Favorite Dish: Grilled chicken Italian sandwich

Lahieres. There are many very good restaurants in Princeton, but this is my favorite.
You could also try the Ferry House, Mediterra, and JB Winberries for cheaper (relatively) fare.
    Good service, great food.

    Favorite Dish: The filet mignon.
