Nevada Diner: Best diner in New Jersey!

by katmag

Well, being from New Jersey, it's natural that I frequent a lot of diners. I felt that it's necessary that I share with you the best diner that I have ever been to. The Nevada Diner has all the diner regular menu options and then some. The thing that makes it great is that they use really good ingredients and so, you can really taste the difference in the food. The burgers are better, the salads are better, the fried foods are better. They even thow in some unusal diner menu items like potato pancakes and cheddar and broccoli bites. Check this place out!

Mexicali Rose: Great Place for Mexican

by kazander

Enjoyable mexican in a great atmoshpere. The slightly cramped, crowded wildly decorated with "mexican" paraphenalia set of rooms is the perfect setting to get together with a bunch of friends for dinner. They do not serve alcohol, so you must bring your own, there is a liqour store conveniently located across the street. Bring your own Tequila, and they will whip you up a batch of some wonderful margaritas. If it's your birthday and someone spills the beans to the staff, look out! The servers all come out of nowhere singing loudly, while crowning you with a large, straw sombrero and taking a polaroid picture of you. It's part fun, part huge embarrassment!

Vegetarian/Vegan NJ

by feline01

New Jersey has many great vegetarian restaurants, fortunate for me since I have been one for 9 years.Visit Veggie Works in Belmar, Veggie Heaven in Parsippany, Chand Palace in Parsippany, Evergreen in Marlton, Singapore in Cherry Hill, Jerusalem in Elizabeth, Livingston or Highland Park, Down to Earth or Eurasian Eatery in Red Bank, Jhupdi in Edison and many others. If you are vegetarian/vegan and coming to NJ or if you just want to try to not eat a slaughtered animal, please email me for tips on where to go, how to get there and best menu items. Email me for more information on any NJ vegetarian restaurant.

Bahr's: Waterside Seating and Fresh Seafood

by kazander

Since our trip to Maine Lou has had a thing for Lobster. We had heard lots of good things about Bahr's from friends of ours who are frequent visitors, so we included in our Sandy Hook plans. Most of the menu is Seafood; Lobster, clams, fresh fish, ect... There is a small section for "landlubbers". If your not into fish, you better like steak, because your only other choice is lots of drinks from the bar...Which are really quite tasty, besides the beer on tap they also have some "fancy" drinks like the Chocolate Covered Banana Daquiri which comes with a free pint glass

Bagel Pantry: BETTER bagels, anyone?

by b1bob

This bakery does one thing (bagels) and does it well. There may be less of a selection here than at Bagels 4U on Main Street. The Bagel Pantry mainly offers savoury flavours such as onion, garlic, and the everything bagel which is a mixture of savoury spices. Despite the lack of sweet selections, the flavour is better by far. Onion or garlic bagels. An interesting thing: on my last day in New Jersey, I went for bagels. They filled my order and added two more free because I came from down South, a place not noted for bagel appreciation.

Bagels 4 U: bagels, anyone?

by b1bob

Conveniently located on Metuchen's Main Street, the Bagels 4U offers all manner of baked goods. There are Bagels 4 U stores all over New Jersey. The first order of business was to get bagels for breakfast from a nearby bakery. There were more flavours of bagels than Baskin Robbins has for ice cream. I had a raspberry bagel and some coffee.

Duchess Diner: Duchess Diner

by b1bob

At my first time here (30 December 1999), I had Greek food at lunch in Union Station on the way up. Therefore, I had a genuine desire to take supper at a simple American diner. The thought first occurred to me on seeing the New Ideal Diner (at which I have since eaten) on pulling out of Aberdeen, Maryland. On Deb's return, we set out for the Duchess Diner, complete with an old timey cash register. J.D. ordered a ham and egg sandwich; Deb took a vegetable omelet together with home fries; Savannah took a spot of macaroni and cheese; and I chimed in with a western omelet with fries and toast. Not remembering it at the second time there (28 December 2003 just before J.D. and I set out for Giants Stadium), it turned out that I had the exact same thing.

Friendly's: Friendly's

by b1bob

Friendly's is a chain of American-style restaurants on the east coast. There used to be one in Mechanicsville, but nowadays, New Jersey has the most locations. Friendly's has an equal or greater reputation for its ice cream as it does for the main dishes it serves. After supper, we went to Friendly's to take a spot of ice cream. Savannah had a strawberry milk shake; J.D. took a peanut butter cup sundae; and I had a forbidden chocolate ice cream cone.

Davy's Dogs: Hot Dogs and Ice Cream

by kazander

Off of Route 80 at exit 30 in Mt Arlington, is a crazy little place called Davy's. It's an interesting building that almost looks like a gingerbread house. They have inside seating as well as a walk up window and picnic tables outside. They serve Hot dogs with all kinds of fixin's as well as other "fast food" munchies. Our favorite is the Ice cream! Davy's is one of the places where they serve Welsh Farms Ice Cream. My favorite! The best has got to be the Peanut butter ripple, AKA chocalate peanut butter. MMMMM another favorite is the soft serve.

Lambertville Inn: Jazz on Saturday Nights

by kazander

If you are visiting the quiant little antique town of Lambertville. or New Hope, PA, Lambertville Station is a great place for dinner. They have a variety of good dishes and on Saturday nights they also have live Jazz performances. Everything I have ever had at this restaurant has been amazing. Try the Calimari or the fried gnocchi for a great appetizer!
