Ringwood Manor State Park offers many trails along the Ramapo Mountain range. These trails extend from the I-287 area near Wanaque/Oakland to the New York State Line. There are great opportunities here to see the entire New York City skyline. Most trails are accessible from Skyline Drive.

Shepherd Pond

Shepherd Pond is a lake within the Ringwood Manor State Park area about a mile north of the Ringwood Manor. The pond is primarily used as a swimming hole during the summer months. I believe the state charges a $7 admission fee here from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Ringwood Manor Gardens

The grounds at Ringwood Manor include a couple of old mansions, a boutanical garden, a medium sized pond. A great place to go to get some flower pictures. The grounds are well kept.

Frog on log in bog

Go through the gate alongside the beginning of the apple tree rows, pass through the rhododendron garden and down through the wildflowers. You will come to another gate, open and continue on though the woods on a small cedar trail. Come to the bench turn around, You're at the frog Bog.
In this marshy little area , is a small pond filled with algae, frogs and the occasional turtle or muskrat. great spot for nature photos, just don't forget the bugspray!

If you're ever up in my neck of the woods (and I do mean woods!) definately check out the gardens. My favorite time is late summer when all the butterflies are there, but it's beautiful year round. They have annual and perennial gardens, rows of apple trees that go on forever, a frog bog, tons of trails and so much more to explore. When you park, there is usually a map that you can pick up to take with (helps from getting lost) or you can pick up info at the "comfort station"
During the summer concerts are held out on the lawn(inside in bad weather)
