This picturesque little town is teeming with antique shops all within a few blocks of each other. You could go for hours and not get through them all! There is also an art gallery, some craft shops and a cafe or two. Not to mention that just down the road are some outlets that are also worth a stop. We like to do our Christmas shopping in Lafayette, it has something for everyone!.
What to buy: Stop by the Chocolate Goat for all types of treats. Not only do they have a wonderful selection of candy, but lots of Christamas ornaments, Bath products, candles and other goodies.
What to pay: Some things are very expensive, some are deals. Lou likes to charm the older ladies into giving us better prices, hey it always works!
New Jersey is home to the most malls per square mile out of all 50 states. It is without a doubt that many of us spend A LOT of time in these malls and most can proudly say that they've been to a mall in the past couple weeks. One of the best malls is the Jersey Gardens. With an abundance of name brand shops and a great Food Court Jersey mall can be a thrilling day long outing. Brand name stores include Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle, Hollister, Tommy Hilfigure.......the list goes on. The mall could be a great place to visit if you have stopover in New jersey since it is so close to the Airport.
Shuttle from Newark International Airport AirTrain Station P4
Leaves AirTrain station every 30 minutes from 10 am to 8pm (Sunday from 11 am - 6pm)
Returns from Jersey Gardens every 30 minutes from 10:15am to 8:45 pm (Sunday from 11:15 am - 6:45 pm)
Average trip time is 10 minutes
The shuttle bus will pick up and drop off outside Entrance B on the upper level (by Chilis Too). Tickets are $5 each way ($9 round-trip) and can be purchased from the bus driver on the bus.
What to buy: Shirts at Abrecombie and Fitch for $14.99
This is one of those Northeastern tips as Modell's has stores from New York on down to Northern Virginia (which is culturally part of the Northeast). It is a big chain, but has been owned and operated by the same family since 1889.
What to buy: All manner of sportwear, fan gear for whatever team is local to the area (mainly northeastern teams- I doubt you will find Carolina Panthers gear there- I looked), plus things like baseballs, catcher's mitts, footballs, basketballs, etc.
The mall leans a bit to the snooty side with the anchor stores being Macy's and Nordstrom. However, with more than 175 stores including Musicland, K.B. Toys, Sharper Image, an Odeon Cineplex, etc., there is something for everybody.
UPDATE: I will no longer buy anything at this mall or any other by the same management (Simon Group) because they evicted a tenant based on the content of his store and applied this standard only to this vendor. If you're interested, write me an e-mail for more details.

Mall of Short Hills is one of the largst shopping mall in new Jersey. This is where you can find designer shops like Louis Vuttion, Salvatorre Ferragamo, Lacoste etc. Interconnected to it are Bloomigdales and Macy's. Bridgewater Common houses different designer shops like Nike, Victoria's Secret, bebe, etc. They also have shops selling electronics, home stuffs etc. Food court and coffee shops are also available. cinema is located on the second floor.
Gypsy's in Cedar Grove is a old fashioned house packed to the gills with antique goodies. The store mainly deals with architectural details such as stained glass windows, shutters, old wooden doors, ect. The store also sells hardware bits like knobs and handles, and some vintage fabrics.
Every few weeks in the spring, summer and fall, they hold a large sale where outside vendors come to the shop to sell their wares. the small parking lot quickly fills up with little booths. At these times it is better to park at the shopping lot across the street and walk over to investigate.
What to buy: I have gotten number of wonderful stained glass windows here. Gorgeous stuff!
What to pay: anywhere between $20 and hundreds, it depends on what you want
If you have ever been to a farmers market you will love this place, if you have never shopped at a farmers market you will love this place. It is huge and has every thing you can think of at a discount. There are several places to grab a bite to eat, you know grease pits, fries, dogs, burgers, roasted nuts, you know all the stuff thats NOT good for you. You really can find just about any thing here but be careful and look closely at lables, some thing are knockoffs so becareful. Bring lots of cash, some of the venders in here have started to take Visa & MC, suggest bringing money and lots of it because you will find some thing, might be a wood carving or a piece of jewelry the your lady really likes and you can't say no. Have fun and walk around browse some because the prices can vary for the same item, don't just buy it at the first place you look because you WILL see it later for a cheaper price.
Cowtown is only open on Tuesday & Saturday from around 7:00am until 5:00pm or so
Some times you may get lucky on there will be a rodeo on Tuesday night, thats xool.
If you ever land on Newark and got some time to spare try the free shuttle from Newark airport to stretch your legs in a mall instead of an airport.
Newark airport has some things to offer but do you really want to stay there more then 2 or 3 hours ???
We didn't, we took the shuttle and walk around the mall for a few hours....
The mall is close to Newark airport in Elizabeth
What to buy: We did some christmas gift shopping for our parents..

The Short Hills Mall is for those with a little more. I feel weird going there if I'm not dressed up, because you'll definitely have people looking at you funny! They have a Macy's and a Bloomingdale's, and all the other upperscale stores you can think of.
Campmor is a well known camping store/mail order that sends out little Black and White catalogs all over the country. Lucky for me, their actual store location is not terribly far from my house.
They have pretty much anything you will need if you are a camper, biker or avid hiker. Besides a large array of tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses, cots, backpacks, bikes and cooking parephenalia, they also have a good selection of clothing and shoes and boots, plus many more miscellaneous items you didn't know you needed. (But then discover you must have, even if you're just camping for the night!)
What to buy: I find it's good to stop in for time to time to see what goodies they have on sale. I have gotten countless amounts of gear here, so I can't recommend just one thing
What to pay: competively priced
