Bring your moolah! by VeronicaG When traveling in New Jersey, make sure you have lots of coins! The Garden State Parkway, which is a main artery, requires $.25 and $.35 tolls. Most of the time there will be at least one toll booth that has an attendant who will give you change if necessary--it is indicated by a non-blinking green light. Toll booths requiring the correct change have blinking green lights. However, there are toll booths on exits that are not manned where you need the exact change. Welcome to New Jersey!

The hardest thing to get used to after moving to New Jersey, was the infamous jug handle. For those of you who are unacquainted with this highway feature--it is used when you are not permitted to make a left turn. In order to do so, you must find a place indicated for making U-Turns and veer off to the right. The turn loops around so that you are then in a position to go left. CRAZY!! Don't worry, though, not all roads prohibit left turns. Just be prepared when you see a sign indicating that this is the case.

early sunday morning with no traffic! by kazander Apparently we drive like maniacs in New Jersey:) Of course we all complain about the New York drivers but then again one always has to blame someone.... Growing up here and learning to drive here I guess for me it is the norm, but if you're not from the area be careful for those who don't know how to use their blinkers (not me I assure you) exits that come from out of nowhere and if you're on the Parkway those pesky tolls. We go fast and some are a tad reckless so practice those defensive driving skills! Leave a Comment

A bane to out-of-state drivers by b1bob New Jersey is famous for its cloverleaf intersections, especially on 4-lane highways. Cloverleaf intersections are a ramp that you turn off to go onto the secondary road where you can make your turn around. On older highways, there are very few u-turns nor left turn signals. It drives people from out of state nuts. Thanks to my friend Joe for setting me straight. This confusing system drove my boss nuts, not to mention made it hard to give directions for out-of-state customers to our liquidation. Leave a Comment

Perhaps it's just because so many people have populated the area for so long that the roads weren't planned far enough in advance, but I've noticed that there are too many places where lanes end suddenly without warning, or where merging into traffic is necessary but next to impossible to do (like on Route 22). Also, the drivers here are a bit more agressive and impatient than anywhere else that I've seen. They'll pass you in a second if you're in their way!!!! Leave a Comment

Drive carefully. Wear your seat belts at all times. NJ drivers can be aggressive at times and rude I'm sorry to say. If you are driving along route 322 DON'T EXCEED THE SPEED LIMITS. I believe some smaller local municipalities just about fund their police departments on their speeding ticket incomes, epecially in Harrison, Elk and East Greenwich Townships.N.J. road signs are above average compared to other states I've been to, but the sheer volume of drivers on the road make it tricky to gety on and off of major roads such as I-295, Rt.42,Rt.55.Go alittle slower in the right lane, put up with the occasional merging traffic and you'll probably do fine with regard to exiting these roads. A word on behalf of our local police. For the most part they are very courteous and professional, especially the State Police. There is a very controversial issue going on regarding the State Police and an apparent racial profiling of people of color. Not being a person of color, I cannot say that profiling does or does not exist, but if you are a person of color traveling in New Jersey, be aware and be polite for your own sake.

Tony Soprano's magnificent house is in North Caldwell. We all know it also features New Jersey's most famous backyard. Some of the opening credits are shot nearby on Mountain Avenue. Neighbors of the house don't mind the filming because they leave the place cleaner. Leave a Comment

by b1bob The sign in the picture applies all over, but I came across it at an A & P store in Metuchen, New Jersey. It says BEER: Helping ugly people have sex since 1862. Leave a Comment

Typical NJ Turnpike toll by feline01 Driving in NJ takes guts. If you are a scared or hesitant driver, do not drive here. An interesting statistic is that the USA national average is 64 cars per square mile, NJ has 822 cars per mileage. It doesn't take Einstien to realize that in this relatively small state, there are a hell of alot of cars. We move fast and do not let others get in our way. Roads are crowded and people are cranky. And I almost forgot about the tolls, the Garden State Parkway has annoying tollbooths placed haphazardly throughout the system. The toll is only 35 cents but figuring out which lane takes exact change, which is non-exact change and which lane is EZ Pass is a complete nightmare, especially during rush hour and summer traffic. This picture is taken at the NJ Turnpike tollbooth at Exit 14 (Route 78, Route 22, Route 21, Routes 1&9, and Newark Airport). Notice the plane approaching over the tolls! The NJ Turnpike only has tollbooths when you get on (take a ticket) and when you exit (pay the toll). Leave a Comment
