  • There has been an increase of gang related activity in Wildwood. Stay around the boardwalk at night.

Beware of Laura's Fudge, known for it's creamy fudge and chocolate covered strawberries, or you'll wind up leaving Wildwood a bit heavier than you arrived.

  • Beware of the seagulls! If they don't take a dump on you they'll steal your food! This is for on the boardwalk and on the beach!

  • Generally very safe and family oriented but the occasional pickpocket in crowds like anywhere. Small children can get lost on crowded boardwalk if you dont hang on to them. Police announce lost kids over loud speaker. Drivers dont always pay attention. Memorial day and Labor day weekends are party weekends with some loud crowds.

    Parking is a nightmare!

  • Parking is a real problem at the shore during the high season. If you are lucky enough to find accommodation near the Boardwalk, I suggest you park your car and leave it if you are able bodied and do not have small children in tow. Rent or bring a bicycle for your stay down the shore to avoid the exorbitant parking fees at the lots or on the metered streets. If you think you can manage to bike whilst at the shore, don’t forget to bring a bike lock and chain with you. If you are a cheapskate like me, you may think if you drive around long enough looking for a free spot in Wildwood. Think again- it’s not going to happen. Make sure to inquire ahead of time of your hotel/motel/hostel/rental unit if they guarantee an assigned parking spot in your room fee.

Don't even think about parking illegally. The meter maids and policeman will not be sympathetic.

    Safety Concern

  • We were in the new nite club Flip Flopz and a man was randomly beaten to near death in the men's room. What makes this so scarey is that he was a tourist, like ourselves and he was elderly. I am not sure if the motive was robbery or just a senseless beating... but he was not conscious and bleeding from his ears when he was found alone on the men's room floor. He was flown to a hospital for emergency care but we have not been able to find out how he made out. Needless to say we left that club where it was predominantly very young and headed to the pub across the street which had a nice friendly crowd with less wild going ons.

    must!

Crucial: Do not forget your beach footwear. I highly recommend bringing good quality sandals that fasten securely to the foot such as Teva or Reef for two reasons. One is because the Boardwalk is several miles long and you will be walking quite a lot. The second reason is due to the size of the beach—to walk from the Boardwalk to the ocean is about ½ mile (1 km) walk. Obviously the sand in the summer is quite hot. For such a long walk on loose sand, flip flops will not protect your feet and you WILL burn your feet. Some of the smaller beaches on the shore do not present this problem, but the Wildwood beach is really a challenge because it’s so large. Consider yourself warned.
