There is a wonderful little exhibit of very creative fashions made of recycled items, currently on display. It is on the way out to the parking garage, but it is worth checking out if you are there or waiting. These dresses were shown in the Recycled Fashion Shows during past Recycling Week events in Santa Fe. I think they have traveled and been shown elsewhere also.

Albuquerque's main airport (officially called the "Sunport") lies just a few miles south of downtown and is adjacent to Kirtland Air Force Base (sharing runways and fire/rescue facilities).
There's plenty of parking and the attractive terminal is easy to navigate. A number of places to eat lie both before and after the security checkpoints, providing a wide range of foods but with a Southwestern emphasis. The terminal also includes plenty of artwork and a large collection of model airplanes to look at in addition to a very nice observation lounge.
If you have a car and a free afternoon, drive south of the Sunport towards the General Aviation area and you will find an "Airplane Viewing Area" at the end of one of the runways. It's a great place to watch planes take off and land.

Fly into Albuquerque International airport, or if you're from a neighboring state, drive via I-40 or I-25.
You definitely need a car to get around, everything is very spread apart. It's like a big suburb.

AMTRAK! My daughter rides it all the time!
Car. You have to have a car. Our public transportation is abominable.

Getting around Albuquerque pretty much requires that you have a car. Only a few areas, such as Old Town and Central Ave. in the University / Nob Hill area, are pedestrian friendly. There is some sparse bus service, but don't plan to stay out after 6 or 7 pm if you're relying on public transportation.

Definitely rental car. Public transportation here is not the best

This guy gives bicycle tours. Snapped this photo of him on his lunch break. You'll need a car to get to Sandia Crest. Once we were at Old Town there were many things to see that were in walking distance of each other.

Although there are many ways to get to the city, such as airplane, bus and train, getting around the city is a different story. Albuquerque lacks when it comes to public transportation. There are many bike trails throughout the city but travelers would have a hard time finding them. Bus is ok, if you don't mind the wait. Taxi's are also avaliable but you can't flag them down like in larger cities, here you have to call them to come pick you up. They will charge an arm and a leg to take you to your destination, wherever that may be. Light Rail, there are plans to build a Light Rail system but that won't happen until 2006. So the best thing I can recommend for getting around the city is car. At least until something better comes up.

In the center of the city, in downtown, sits the Alvarado Transportation Center. This newly built structure will serve as the hub for transportation in Albuquerque. Here, people will be able to catch the city bus, or perhaps a taxi. Greyhound, wich currently sits across the street from the center, will also move in and operate from there in the future. Amtrak also makes stops here and will have an office in the center when the second phase of the project is built. When Light Rail is up and running in the city, the rail will operate from and make stops at the center. Many bike racks are located here for bike riders to park their bikes while they attend to business in downtown. Built to look like the old Alvarado train station and hotel, the Alvarado Transportaion Center will serve almost all forms of transportation in and out of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
