Isotopes Park - Albuquerque Sports Stadium

by MarkJochim Updated Apr 6, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Istopes Park is the brand-new home of Albuquerque's brand-new minor league baseball team; 2003 is the inaugural season. It's a great stadium; on April 5, 2003, the team held an open house. There's not a bad seat in the stadium and it features a picnic area and grass slope from which to view the games, in addition to over 16,000 seats. The first home game will be on April 11.

For more photos and information on Isotopes Park, see my VT Travelogue.

Play Ball!! Pro Baseball Returns To Albuquerque

by MarkJochim Written Apr 12, 2003

The Isotopes finally played their home opener on Friday, April 11, 2003. The opening ceremonies included speeches by Albuquerque's mayor and the governor of New Mexico (plus taped messages from NM's senator and congressman). There was also a flyover by four F-16 jet fighters from the New Mexico Air National Guard "Tacos". The first balls were thrown out by Mayor Marty Chavez and Governor Bill Richardson (with some help from the Isotopes' mascot - Orbit - and cartoon characters Bart and Homer Simpson.

    Fireworks after Isotopes Home Opener

by MarkJochim Written Apr 12, 2003

The Isotopes did end up losing their first-ever baseball game held at their new Albuquerque home stadium, 5-3 against the Nashville Sounds. Despite the loss, most Albuquerqueans seem thrilled to have pro ball back in town. Their spirits were uplifted by a very patriotic fireworks display following the game.
