There are also some plaques to commemorate the contributions of the Buffalo Soldiers and an open air ramada used for special events.
At one point the post was commended by CPT Arthur MacArthur. CPT MacArtur lived here with his family including his young son, Douglas, who would grow up to be a soldier himself. A kinda famous one. This is all that remains of Douglas MacArthur's old home.
Horses and other livestock were very important to the fort and the soldiers. There were corrals and stables to protect the animals on the post. There was also a hospital on post with doctors and a veterenarian.
They chose an amusing way to make the point. Do be careful because the area is popular with rattlesnakes.
