We got settled into our Motel, now it was time to look for a bite to eat. All along Hwy 491, it was like restaurant row in Gallup. We chose SIZZLER because of its great salad & dessert bar and they had a great Senior offer of 6 ounce steak, all-you-can-eat salad bar and beverages of your choice all for $10.99. The steak was small, but more than enough for me. They even had nachos and cheese at the salad bar, which I love.

The food is excellant! The place is a little small but the enchiladas and rellenos are to die for. Have luck trying to get a seat, because the place is so popular with the locals it's almost sure to be full.

Favorite Dish: Green chilie Rellenos. The relleno is a long green chillie stuffed with cheese then fried in an egg and flour batter, and it's served with a green chillie sauce on top and beans with spanish rice on the side

An eclectic menu, featuring local dishes, Greek and Italian. Decor kind of chain-like, but the wait staff was very entertaining. Our waiter ended up comparing his hickies with those being sported by one of our group who had just been treated by a Navajo Medicine Man. Long story.

We noticed that Eggplant Parmesan was in the poultry section of the menu. Surely not because of the EGGplant???

Favorite Dish: Greek Salad, excellent.
Garlic Bread, complimentary, and extremely tasty.
Moussaka, almost as good as my own cooking, but with no cleaning up.

The food is OK, but the real attraction of Earl's is that local vendors ply their trade between the tables as you eat. From what I hear, this is almost the only place in Gallup itself where you are likely to be buying from the people who make the jewellry, pots, etc, rather than some middleman. Of course, if you're really concerned about this, you'll likely buy in the Nation itself.

Favorite Dish: The Navajo Taco is very good. The pies look scrumptious, but we were too stuffed to even attempt such a thing.
