Glenwood is a small town of about 300 (down about 40% since 2000) located along US Highway 180 in Southwest New Mexico near the Arizona border. Glenwood was founded in 1878 and was called Glenwood Springs until about 1900. The first powered airplane flight in the state occurred near Glenwood. There is not a lot to the town but they have a number of decent places to hike and explore nearby and a great place for breakfast.

For just a couple of dollars, you get into a canyon that yields beauty, nature and history all at the same time. A walk into Whitewater Canyon along its famous Catwalk is an amazing journey.
The entrance to the canyon is sudden and dramatic, with several large shade trees providing the perfect opportunity for picnics at the adjacent tables. The perennial flow of the stream can also be experienced here as it gushes out of the canyon in front of you with a nearly always chilly blast of water.
The history comes from its use in prior 19th century mining activities and connection to the nearby, now ghost town of Mogollon. Of course, the catwalk has been rebuilt to accommodate visitors, but the remnants of the original structures are omnipotent throughout the canyon.
Only a mile or so long, the trail dead-ends as the canyon and its creek become too narrow to navigate. The whole round-trip trek should take a little over an hour.

Mogollon is a miner's ghost town on the border between Arizona and New Mexico. Gold and silver were mined here. It takes a driver with a cool mind to drive up here, the road is narrow, steep and twisting. A few people are still living here, tending to the few visitor's needs.
