The Church of San Jose de Gracia is located in Las Trampas, NM, on NM-76 south of Taos. Las Trampas was founded in 1751 by 12 families from Santa Fe. The adobe church was finished in 1776 and is one of the finest surviving 18th-century churches in New Mexico. For any size donation you may take pictures without a flash. Postcards are available for 50 cents.

    Best Winery in New Mexico?

La Chiripada may be the best winery in New Mexico. Tucked away in the lovely Embudo Valley of northern New Mexico, it is owned and operated by the Johnson family in the town of Dixon, 50 miles north of Santa Fe and 25 miles south of Taos. The winery was established in 1977, following the traditions of the first Spanish settlers, and the name La Chiripada (meaning "a stroke of luck") was adopted from the original ranch where the winery is located. Their wines have won many awards but I like their Riesling. They grow their own Riesling grapes and make a superb wine. Minna, the manager of the Dixon tasting room, turned out to be the twin of a guy I know at work (too bad she got all the good looks).

    Chamisal Artist's Work

Chamisal is a small village on NM-76 south of Taos. The three acre contemporary sculpture garden is eye-catching. I only took pictures from the road but it is obvious that this artist has unique talent.

Truth is found in a small cemetery at the edge of the small village of Rio Lucio where NM-75 and NM-76 intersect, i.e., "God Gives and God Takes Away."
