Red River Things to Do

  • Walk along the river

In the center of town there is a nice paved path along the river. "Toni Woerndle Memorial River Park".

  • Hike at the top of the ski area

There are some nice places to hike along the top of the mountain in Red River with spectacular views. From the top of the ski lift, we turned right, and hiked along the ridge line, then the trail turned on the backside of the mountain and continued through a lush aspen forest.

  • Inner Tubing! In Summer!

Red river has done a nice job of providing summer activities for the family at the ski resort. They set up inner tube tracks going down one of the small bunny hills. There were two tracks from that you ride down from a small ski lift, then there is a smaller track off to the side for kids under 7 years old.

Red River Warnings and Dangers

  • Most rooms, no AC

Not really a warning or danger, however- I was worried because the low temps get in the 40's (F) even during the summer, but what I didn't realize, was that most rooms don't have Air conditioning, so our motel rooms were SO HOT! If that is a concern with you, be sure to ask when you book your lodging.

  • Know your slope-schussing ability!

Do not overestimate your ability on the slopes. Do not forget that you may have aged a few more years since your last ski trip.Nothing wrecks a trip to the mountains more than getting a metal rod inserted into your tibia. : )Note the t-shirt pictured below.... "Catskinner" is one of Red River's more deadly slopes. The t-shirt says "donate blood,...

  • Early bird gets the shortest line(s)

Anyone who goes skiing appreciates the shortest possible lift lines. And, while lift lines aren't really much of a problem in Red River, you're always going to get in more skiing if you spend less time in line. So, go out earlier and get in some quality runs before the others finish brunch, especially on the weekends.
