Should start by saying that Taos Ski Valley is a SKIING ONLY ski resort., so sorry to any snowboarder out there because as a surfer I think snowboarding is very cool indeed. The area has a reputation for some pretty difficult skiing, but I'm here to assure that me, a mediocre intermediate level skiing absolutely loved it. We loved how pleasant it was to ski in the sunshine with the air temperature being a tad more mild than skiing the U.P. with our Wisconsin relatives! (the master of understatement strikes again! LOL!). To reinforce that it's for everyone. Of the 110 trails 24% are beginners, 25% intermediate & 51% are expert. With an average snowfall of around 300 inches & an average of more than 300 days per year of sunshine...,WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!
We brought all our own gear, including skis, but you could hire/rent anything you need, including clothes, there at a number of places in Taos Ski Valley. Taos ski Valley is currently scheduled to stay open till April 11, 2004. so you still have plenty of time to get out there you Americans, particularly you Texans, southern Colorado people & all New Mexicans! I highly recommend Essential Massage for a lovely massage. Try the Hot River Rocks Massage. Kyoko Hummel left her high tech job in Washington to learn massage therapy and opened her wonderful Essential Massage and Spa Therapies in town for total recovery for the sports enthusiast and the Couch Potato alike. She teams up with The Yoga Center for Yoga Massage Retreats (3 and 5 day offerings) which can really help your overall physical and mental well-being.
The Yoga Center is next door and offers great instructors in Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga along with specialized back care classes. Sonya Luz Hinton was our Ashtanga Yoga teacher and she is extremely knowledgeable. She leads Yoga classes and retreats in Taos, Costa Rica , and Peru. Essential Massage offers professional massage therapies, hot river rocks massage, facials and herbal foot wraps, aromatherapy and more. Wonderful, skilled hands. Received the best massage of my life here.
