Birding
If you enjoy wild birds, the Sandia and Manzano Mountains have great sites for bird watching. Take some binoculars, get out and walk the trails, take a book about New Mexican birds like "Birds of New Mexico Field Guide by Stan Tekiela (Adventure Publications, Inc). I highly recommend the "Rosy Finches at Sandia Crest, New Mexico" Website below. It contains lots of pictures and information about birding throughout the Sandias and east mountains of Albuquerque for all four seasons.

    Drive the Turquoise Trail
The Turquoise Trail is designated as a "Scenic By Way" in America. Highway 14 or "North 14" as it is called starts in Tijeras and proceeds North to Santa Fe. The road follows historic trails through tiny mining towns, restored former "ghost towns", ski areas, ponderosa, pinyon, and juniper forests, sagebrush and pinyon pine covered high desert buttes and canyons. The panoramic views are jaw-dropping. If you like art, there are plenty of artist galleries in towns like Madrid and others.
