Sculpture Park

Bordering Astoria and Long Island City is Sculpture Park, what used to be an abandened eye sore along the beautiful East River Waterfront. You would not venture here before but since the mid 80's a group of artistics adopted the area and made it into an outdoor museum and park with sculptures and artist space. It's a unique and creative place to look at and feel, you can really interact with the pieces. Summers provide outdoor cinema for the community as well.

Museum of The Moving Image

A great Museum just off of Steinway St. My favorite thing to do in Queens because I love movies. The museum hosts three galleries about the history of movie making, it's business and technologies.
The 1st floor has a great arcade with old games to play, a cafe, and gift shop selling books and posters.
The 2nd floor has displays about the different elements needed in making a movie ( the talent, direction, engineers). Costume displays from the recent movie "Chicago" are on display as well as advertisements from classic movies of the past. Interactive displays teach about soundtrack making and costume design that you can super impose on yourself.
The 3rd floor teaches about the optics involved in moving making and the first cameras ever created. Nickelodeons are on display and you can watch Charlie Chaplin run a muck. The best part is a piece of art that is a life size spinning wheel that shows a changing claymation.
It also host showings with analysis or previous interviews from the directors. Check their Calender on the website.

This place is great for kids with all the interactive learning activities.

Astoria Park

In the New York City Borough of Queens, Astoria remains a very nice area to visit. Astoria Park contains many nice areas to relax, play some sports, ride your bike or take a nice relaxing walk with the NYC skyline overlooking the triborough bridge. It's a beautiful place to visit in the Spring and Summer.
