Polish restaurant in Greenpoint
My Polish friend, Lukasz, spent a lot of time in Brooklyn and whenever I travelled out here with him we’d go to a Polish restaurant in Green point (called Cristina’s if I remember correctly). There were a lot of Polish people living in this area so it’s no surprise to find a few Polish restaurants here. I’d never been to Poland or had hadPolish food before but I quickly grew to like it. I also had my first Polish beer in Cristina’s and I’ve been enjoying them ever since!
Coco Roco: the best brunch hands down
this peruvian restaurant had been hyped up by the person who took me there but it definitely lived up to the hype. we sat outside on the back deck and had a delightful brunch. for 11 dollars you get a good portioned meal with a cocktail and a bottomless cup of coffee. after brunch we moved on to several pictures of sangria. the waitstaff was friendly and kind. i would go back several times just to try more meals. (or perhaps to have the pollito negro again and again!)
Favorite Dish: Pollito Negro!
kind of like a panini. pulled roasted chicken in a sort of pita like bread with a cheese-ish black olive sauce. oh my! delcious! comes with a side salad and two eggs on toasted bread.
get it by the pitcher+friends+good conversation= 3 hours later brunch is over.
Bar Toto: An unbelievably good burger
The first time I went here, someone dining with us said that the burgers here were very good. I thought to myself:"It's an Italian restaurant. How good can it really be?" After having the burger here twice, I can say one thing: Man. That is one good burger.
The key to this one being so good is the bread. They use a fairly firm panini and they must cook the burger different because there is no mass of grease that pours out of the burger and into the bun. So, yes. The burger at this Italian restaurant is pretty good!
Favorite Dish: burgers
Schnitzel Haus: Bay Ridge Authentic German
This restaurant just opened in late Spring 2006. With appetizers ranging from smoked trout filet to Bavarian meat salad to camenbert cheese, it's NOT a place to start a diet. However, there is a lengthy menu with something for just about everyone. Several salads lighten the load, and the sausage platters are authentically served with sauerkraut, German potato salad (no mayo here!) or even a fresh pretzel. There is poultry, lamb, fish, and various meats represented on the menu.
What's a vegetarian to do? Well, I ordered the Reibekuchen (potato pancakes) and a mixed salad. Next time I think I'll go for some cheese, but the pancakes were SO good. There is a vegetarian platter available that has pancakes, spaetzle, red cabbage and fresh vegetables. That sounds good too.
Don't forget the desserts because the warm apple strudel and black forest cherry cake looked really delicious. There's also a decent selection of beers and wines available. A full bar is there as well.
The decor is hunting lodge Bavarian, and the servers wear traditional dress.
China Mehadrin: Excellent Chinese food
One of the best kosher chinese restaurants I have been to. Although you can sit inside, this is more of a take out restaurant (and they deliver free for minimum of $20). There are lunch and dinner specials (don't know the lunch price but dinner is $10 for soup, entree and rice). They dont mind specializing the dishes with different vegetables and are courteous and friendly.
Favorite Dish: Beef with garlic sauce
Circa: Fresh Food galore!
Great fresh salads and other dairy food. You can put whatever you want in the salads including different vegetables, grape leaves, tuna etc and many different types of dressings. They also have delicious soups, pasta and fish dishes.
Favorite Dish: Feta Salad with Caesar dressing
Olympic Pita: Olympic Pita -- a taste of the middle east
This restaurant brings excellent Middle Eastern food to the heart of Brooklyn. They serve traditional dishes such as schwarma and falafel. Their lunch specials run until 5 pm, which gives you soup, entree and drink for $10. They have excellent lafa (oven baked flat bread) and other salads, meats, chickens etc.
Favorite Dish: Schwarma!
iCi Restaurant: Organic Chic
Friends of ours brought us here before going to BAM, and it was wonderful! The restaurant is very understated, and it has space between tables. Not something you find in too many NYC restaurants. We had a wide variety of delicious foods, and the wine selection is fabulous as well. I strongly recommend iCi for a casual night out or a fun breakfast. Check out the website for more information about their organic policies.
Favorite Dish: iCi uses organic foods and it has quite a few organic wines as well. It smells SO GOOD in this place! Definitely try it out.Related to:
Dinner: My favorate
Its an old dinner under the williamsburg bridge. the food is amazing, not your typical dinner food the menu is very short but the list of specials is quite long.
Favorite Dish: The burgers and steak on the menu are great but go with the specials
Chinatown at NYC
My favorites happen to be on Mott Street.
New York City's Chinatown, a tightly-packed yet sprawling neighborhood which continues to grow rapidly, is the largest Chinatown in the United States and the site of the largest concentration of Chinese in the western hemisphere! Both a tourist attraction and the home of the majority of Chinese New Yorkers, Chinatown offers visitor and resident alike hundreds of restaurants, booming fruit and fish markets and shops of knickknacks and sweets on torturously winding and overcrowded streets.
Favorite Dish: Pork is the chief meat of the Chinese - in fact, in some of the southern languages of China, the word meat is used to mean pork. The consumption of fish, both fresh and salt, is enormous. Fowls are the favorite article of diet, and beef is also eaten. Dishes in the Sichuan and Hunan areas are spicy, and they are a little sweet in the Shanghai area.Related to:
