Organic neighbors. by tpal "Arugula is best!" "Kale is better!" "...is not!" "...is so!" Ahh, how the sounds of the Farmer's Market resonate in the organic air. I think Carol (hands on hips) has this one in the bag. Every Saturday from June 'til November the Forever Elmwood Farmer's market draws area neighbors together for everything from organic bok choy to homemade sausage. Held on Bidwell Parkway at Elmwood Avenue, the market brings the urban community together like a small town. Leave a Comment

O.k., while everyone knows that Buffalo is famous for its wings, beef on weck has somehow slipped through the cracks. It's not that it isn't good -- these sandwiches are fantastic, it's just that kummelweck rolls (hard rolls with caraway and salt) don't travel, so the sandwiches really haven't been produced anywhere else. If you go to Buffalo, you've got to try a beef on weck at some time during your stay. And please don't put anything on the sandwich other than a nice glob of horseraddish. Trust me. The three best places to get one are Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen, Schwabl's and Anderson's. Schwabl's 789 Center Road West Seneca (Buffalo), NY 716-674-9821 Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen 1065 Wehrle Drive Williamsville (Buffalo), NY 716-633-8330 Anderson's has nine locations around, so I've stuck their website at the bottom. The Falls of Niagara are very impressive and powerful, but for sheer beauty of waterfalls, go to Letchworth State Parkabout 2 hours east/southeast of Niagara Falls. Also try to view some of the Niagara River up-stream from the falls. It's rocky boulder-based rapids show the swift movement of the water as it heads towards it's plunge over the falls.

1.) The first thing you'll notice when you get to Buffalo is the annoying accents. 2.) It's called "pop" here, not "soda". 3.) If you want to see the cast of MTV's Sorority Life, most of them work at Quote on Chippewa Street. 4.) A Buffalonian's diet: Roast beef on weck, chicken fingers or chicken wings with Nino's homemade bleu cheese dressing, Chavetta's barbecue chicken, sponge candy and loganberry to wash it all down with. 5.) Buffalo is the birthplace of Milard Fillmore, Harold Arlen (the composer of the Wizard of Oz) and Broadway legend Michael Bennett. Lucille Ball was born 45 minutes away in Jamestown. 6.) East Amherst has been continuously voted the safest town in America. 6.) Don't feel afraid to nod and say hello. Buffalo is the friendliest town in America. Leave a Comment

Now most Great Lake states(New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, etc...) have at least one faux paux in common. That's the use of the word "Pop" instead of "Soda". Canadians take credit for being the first to institutionalize the word int eh english vocabulary-but c'mon-we all know they get everything from the states!! But yes, Buffalo residents do refer to soda as pop. I grew up saying it as well. Whose knows what its supposed to be! Leave a Comment

The Buffalo Bills are an icon and 'the best team in the world', I reccomend you keep you comments to yourself about how they play!! Who knows what the rowdy Buffalonians would do! just kidding..:) They are a nice bunch. Leave a Comment

by acemj With large Italian and Polish populations, you'll find lots of beautiful churches in Buffalo, most of which are Catholic. This is a photo of the Our Lady of Victory Basilica on Ridge Rd. Leave a Comment

Try to not offend any of the Bills or Sabres Fans. We have a history of conspiracy theories regarding missed field goals, super bowls and stanley cups.... Leave a Comment

Buffalo has a pretty large Polish community, so naturally there's a big party fro Dyngus Day, the Monday after Easter. Basically, you go out and eat Polish food, dance the Polka, get switched with pussy willows and the girls get squirted with water from the boys (make your own joke here). I've put the Polish Community Center's phone number below, and they should have a good list of what's going on in the area on the day. Leave a Comment Phone: (716) 893-7222
