Take a drive to Sturgeon Point Marina in the South Towns. This is a small marina on the on Lake Erie. It is a fantastic place to relax and walk on the rocks that make up a small pier. The sun and the wind off the lake feels great on a hot summer day. The main activity is of course boating and fishing.
Take the drive from route 5 to Old Lakeshore Road. about 5-8 miles down is the marina on your right.

Holiday Valley Ski Resort is the 2nd largest ski resort in New York State and being only an hour south of the city makes it a popular spot in the winter. It is on Route 219 S. in Ellicottville, New York. This community is a ski town, but very quaint. Also worth a visit. :) And yes, Buffalo does have winter! :) Snow is generally on the ground from late November to ONLY early April-IF then. The snow isn't around in late april or May like some would have you believe.

USS Sullivans
Naval Servicemen’s Park
During World War Two, five brothers in the navy were stationed on the USS Juneau. When the ship sank, all five brothers perished to a water grave. Some time later, the Navy commissioned the USS Sullivans. The ship was mothballed and later brought to Buffalo, New York for permanent residence. It is said that George Sullivan roams about below the docks looking for his brothers who were trapped below the Juneau when it sank.

Niagara Falls is the city right next to the waterfall, which is about thirty minutes from Buffalo. However, if you fly there it seems like it's only a stone's throw away. This is a picture of the American Falls with the city of Niagara Falls in the background.
