Spot Coffee - Elmwood by tpal If you're in Buffalo and looking for a cafe' latte and a panini in a Seattle style coffee shop with local color ... Spot Coffee's the place. You'll find interesting young (always young) employees, with interesting body art(and other decorations) and an adventurous sense of fashion, yelling out things like "Grande house on wheels for the hump back whale!!!!!" You may feel out of place if you don't have a laptop or homework but who knows the next Ezra Pound may be at the next table. Leave a Comment

Friend by johngayton If you have been through the rest of my Buffalo page then you may be a bit bored by my continuing of the "friendly folks" theme here in Buffalo. But it is, and always will be, a continuing, repetition of the same theme, much like a piece of classical music - the base theme acts to introduce the subjects, the crescendos giving the emphasis. Lunching with an old (younger than me, as always!) backgammon adversary, after three days of trying to hook-up, was a total pleasure - great company and the guided tour with the valet-service on my coat was really fun! But back to the restaurant - Gabriel's Gate on Allen St is yet another of Buffalo's little gems, interesting decor, friendly (OMG!!! "Friendly - must stop using this word in conjunction with Buffalo!!) and chatty stafff, good food, reasonably-priced (I Think ??- seeing as Jules wouldn't let me pick up the check).
It has to be the French onion soup, the house speciality, with its gratinated cheese layer still bubbling as it arrives in front of us - that was a perfect "soupe a l'oignon gratinee". For a main I had the "Beef on Weck" which is the other Buffalo standard (apart from the wings) and that was PDG as well, though I am reliably informed there are better to be had - Charlie the Butchers is supposed to be the best. That said, lunch was thoroughly enjoyed :) Cheers Jules! Really Nice People by johngayton This was a bit special, even more so that the fact that I was: a) STARVING b) In Good Company c) I wasn't allowed to pay Here I go again, talking Buffalo "FRIENDLY": Tod, his spectacularly beautiful lady friend AND a georgeous blonde insisted that if I wanted something to eat then: "Jump in the car boy, let's go to Mothers............" I'm a trusting guy, in a strange town (SORRY CITY!) and went along for the ride - it's almost midnight now as we duck and dart through the deserted backstreets of downtown Bufffalo and then pull up at Mothers - Hi Guys, Thank You Guys - I am instantly in serious "Chill and Friends" Country. "Have the steak sandwich, John." suggests Tod, as he orders a round of beers.
Well, guess what my favourite dish here is???? Leave a Comment Theme: AmericanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 33 Virginia PlacePhone: 716 882 2989Directions: No idea - somewhere around the Allen St area?

Ted's Hot Dogs are an institution in Buffalo. The service is quick -- you walk in, get in line and follow your dogs across the grill, into the bun and on to your tray -- and the hot dogs are awsome. They do have burgers and sandwiches and fries etc. as well, but really, the reason to come here is for the hot dogs -- normal, footlong or jumbo, and they are really worth it.
The hot dogs. Ted's uses Sahlen's hot dogs, and they are a staple in any freezer in Buffalo. If you've taken a road trip to Buffalo, buy yourself a cooler and pop in to any supermarket and grab some to take back with you. Leave a Comment

Corner of N (?) and Main by johngayton OK, This is where it all started and hence MUST be on any cook's culinary pigrimage. As a bar/restaurant in its own right The Anchor is well worth a visit, managing to juggle being a friendly local bar as well as a tourist destination. Staff are friendly and well-informed about the bar's history, there's a decent range of beers (McSorley's if my memory serves me well) - but as always here in the US - TOO BLOODY COLD!!! The food offering is a pretty extensive menu with an Italian bias, including home-made pasta dishes, pizza, burgers et al and is perfectly executed. Decor-wise, the claim is that all the wall ornamentation has been built up over the years by donations from customers and the tale of the first license plate is almost believable. There is a lot of hype, but it's good hype, fun and friendly - well worth the Amtrak ride from NY!!!
Well it has to be doesn't it!!!!! Yep, the World-famous wings! And so here's me adding to the hype - these are GOOD wings, I had mine HOT and they lived up to my expectations - they also do them in "suicidal" - DON'T!!! Chicken wings must have been done elsewhere before, somewhere, but who first thought of serving them with a hot sauce, crisp celery and the bleu cheese dip? The celery and dip act as the perfect counterfoil to the heat of the wings and whilst I have had better wings and better sauce I cannot match the spot-on combination here at The Anchor. Not only that but it ain't hugely expensive either :) Leave a Comment Theme: AmericanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 1047 Main StreetPhone: 716 886 8920Directions: Going out of town on RHS - just before Wendy's!Website: www.anchorbar.com

I don’t even know if Buffalo has a Taco Bell. I mean, I’m sure there’s probably one around somewhere, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. Who needs Taco Bell when you have (drum roll, please) Mighty Taco? Mighty Taco is Buffalo’s own fast-food Mexican chain, and the joints are scattered all over Western New York. The food is great and really cheap – a Mighty Taco costs $.99 for the meat, lettuce, tomato and cheese. So good. The Super Mighty Burritos are great too. I once saw a guy try to eat a Super Mighty Pack (four Super Mighty Burritos) in under five minutes to win a bet. That’s a lot of beef. He was dancing and about ready to die. I was hoping he was going to puke or explode. He didn’t. Still, it was great. You do have to pay extra for sour cream and the other extras, but you do get the tomato and lettuce, so it’s good. And the food really is so kick ass. Side note: the weirdest compliment I ever received came from an out-of-town boyfriend eating at Mighty Taco for the first time. “This taco tastes like you.” Yeah. I’m still a bit baffled by that one.
The Super Mighty Burrito or a hard-shelled Mighty Taco. Cause they make my belly happy! Leave a Comment

This was my favorite place to eat as a kid. They have a pirate ship in back, a whale on the roof, a hand-drawn menu tacked to the walls around the counter, and its vegitarian hot dog is a carrot. The place is really great, and the honey-butter for the sweet potato fries just rocks. It's right on the water in Tonawanda, next to Mississippi Mudd's, and I'm pretty sure it's a seasonal place. In the summer, Niawanda Park (the thin land between the street and the river) is a picnic-y, boating spot with paved walking/biking trails(great to watch the July 4th fireworks from and the boatraces, when they have them) right across from it.
The sweet potato fries are amazing. Get some loganberry to drink, while you're at it. It's a really sweet pop without the carbonation. You'll see it all over Buffalo -- it's one of those local things. If you get to the bridge to Grand Island coming from the north, you've gone too far, turn around and go back until you see a building with a whale on top of it. Parking's in the back.

by nuker Home of the 'Buffalo Wing'. Created in 1964, Anchor Bar created the craze called Buffalo Wings. These are always my favorite appetizer wherever we go. I am a glutten for punishment, so I always get REALLY hot wings. Sometimes they will make your eyes water and your lips burn. Bring your Pepto and Rolaids to Buffalo! On top of the good food, many celebrities have been known to stop in from football stars, musicians, White House Officials to Foreign Diplomats.
Buffalo Wings of course! Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: 1047 Main St. Right by the Buffalo General Hospital.Other Contact: **Note the pile of snow next to
