Best Italian: La Bella Sicilia {2909 Genesee St Buffalo, NY 14225}, but there's a myriad of wonderful Italian restaurants.

Lets start with the Ancor Bar, you know, home of the wing. Othere great local spots are Mighty Taco, Louies Texas Hots, Hillview Restaurant / Diner, Olympus, Ted's Texas Hots, another trip to Mighty Taco, The Buffalo Brew Pub, Cheers, Picasso's Pizza, and desert at Mighty Taco just to name a few. I dare you to find better food in any other city!

Nice little, family oriented place in the suburbs.
Favorite Dish: We went to this modest looking place in Cheektowaga (a suburb of Buffalo) and I had some great wings, an excellent beef on weck (another local specialty) and some birch beer (non-alcoholic, similar to root beer.

Nick's is owned by my Buffalo travelling companion's brother. He had also worked there at one time. Of course I am a bit partial, but it is some of the best pizza I have ever had! They also have salads, buffalo wings and BBQ Fries (see below!). There is a small cafe area in the front of the shop where you can eat or you can carry out!
Favorite Dish: I love the BBQ Fries! Fresh out of the fryer, the fries are marinated in BBQ sauce and served with blue cheese dressing and celery sticks! MMMM good! This is the only place I personally have ever seen these made. I have tried to reproduce them to no avail :(

I am a big fan of anything spicy, be it mexican, thai, etc. Of course we have all probably had Taco Bell, but Mighty Taco raises the bar quite it bit above it.
Much more flavor in the seasoned meat, better sauces, and MUCH more generous portions!
If you have a sensitivity to spicy foods, you might want to sit this one out, as it can cause... "intestinal upset".
Favorite Dish: I had the regular soft taco with medium sauce. Much more flavorful than Taco Bell, and the shell was full with lettuce, meat and cheese to the point it was falling out the end with each bite! I wish we had one here!
Menu available on their site.

The Anchor Bar & Restuarant is the original home of Buffalo Chicken Wings... established in 1935!
Favorite Dish: I had the best Spicy Bar-b-que Chicken Wings I've ever eaten at the Anchor Bar!
Get extra napkins! :-)
I also bought 2 bottles of the Anchor Bar's Honey Bar-b-que sauce for $5.00 each!

If you have a really special occasion such as graduation, engagement, etc. Oliver's is the place to go. The taster's menu includes a fixed list of dishes with a complementary wine or liquor for each dish. The price is extremely reasonable for such a combo. In other major metropolitan areas, the prices would be much higher.
Favorite Dish: The Taster's Menu

Home of the 'Buffalo Wing'. Created in 1964, Anchor Bar created the craze called Buffalo Wings. These are always my favorite appetizer wherever we go. I am a glutten for punishment, so I always get REALLY hot wings. Sometimes they will make your eyes water and your lips burn. Bring your Pepto and Rolaids to Buffalo! On top of the good food, many celebrities have been known to stop in from football stars, musicians, White House Officials to Foreign Diplomats.
Favorite Dish: Buffalo Wings of course!

KENTUCKY GREG'S HICKORY PIT: The only true southern BBQ joint in Erie County. It is definitely worth a visit. The proprietor comes from Paducah, KY and has brought that southern BBQ north with him.
Favorite Dish: Everything. Pulled Pork, both as a platter and sandwich, Memphis style (with cole slaw) is outstanding. The Brunswick Stew and Chicken & Sausage Gumbo are also certainly worth a try. For a unique appetizer, try the Fried Banana Peppers.

HOAK'S RESTAURANT: Located right on the shores of Lake Erie on Route 5 in Hamburg.
Favorite Dish: Perhaps my favorite 'Fish Fry' in Erie County. For those of you not familiar with the term, this is a local tradition, typically for Lent, but usually also served Fridays all year. At Hoaks you can get it any day, I believe. It is a beer battered or breaded fish, usually Haddock, served with fries or potato salad, and cole slaw. Excellent!
