SCHARF'S RESTAURANT: Great German place, out of the way on Buffalo's East Side, near Schiller Park. (Just off of Genesee St, Route 33). 34 S. Crossman St., Buffalo. 895-7429

Favorite Dish: Everything has been good. I've had the potato pancakes, Rouladen, Porkschnitzel, etc. They have spatzle as a side dish, something else you don't see every day. Spaten Lager is on tap.

DUFF'S. Best 'Buffalo Wings' anywhere! In Amherst (3651 Sheridan Dr, 834-6234), at the junctions of NY-324 and NY-263. Can be very crowded so best to go at an odd time. Wings are very saucy, hot, and delicious. On weekends make a note of all the out of town cars in the parking lot... tourists!

Duh...the Anchor Bar. Best Wings in the world! They were actually invented here a while back.
Great wings...and plenty of other great food too. Try the sampler plate. Everytime I go in there, I see a celebrity (sports player, Commentator, actor). Everyone loves some good wings!

While it is not my favorite restaurant, I would also like to plug the Anchor Bar.
The Home of the Chicken Wing. Created by Momma Theresa herself. They also have some wonderful live jazz if you hit the right night.
Favorite Dish: Chicken Wings, of course. The rest of the menu leaves a lot to be desired.

Thought I was going to say the Anchor Bar? Fooled ya! I actually like Alton's. It is a Greek-American restaurant in Cheektowaga(suburb). Yes, Buffalo has culture too!
It looks like any other american eatery. But it features aithentic greek food, but also standard American fare.
Favorite Dish: I like the Chicken Souvlaki.

Flying Tigers, you can watch the planes land and take off. It's very romantic and very cozy.
The wait staff is very accomodating, like if you have special requests. I celebrated a Birthday there and they took my picture with my guy and let me pay when he wasn't around etc.
Favorite Dish: Chicken is good here, served any way.

The Anchor Bar is the original place for Buffalo chicken wings. Wanna' know how wings were invented? Here's the story from the Anchor's website:
'The Real Story...'
Buffalo, NY (1964)-On a Friday night, Dominic Bellissimo was tending bar at the now infamous Anchor Bar Restaurant in Buffalo, NY. Late that evening a group of Dominic's friends arrived at the bar touting a ravenous appetite. Dominic asked his mother, Teressa to prepare something for his friends to eat.
At about midnight, Teressa brought out two plates she had prepared in the kitchen and placed them on the bar. The aroma from the plates captured the attention of Dom and his friends and everyone asked, 'What are these?' they looked like chicken wings, a part of the chicken that usually went into the stock pot for soup.
Teressa had deep fried the wings and flavored them with a secret sauce. The wings were an instant hit and it didn't take long for people to flock to the bar to experience this new eating sensation. From that point on, Buffalo Wings became a regular part of the menu at the Anchor Bar.
Today, the original restaurant is Internationally famous and a destination in Buffalo serving up over a thousand pounds of wings each day to the likes of famous movie stars, professional athletes, political leaders and thousands of customers who seek the unique and great taste of Frank & Teressa's Original Buffalo Wings.
The phenomenon created in 1964 by Teressa Bellissimo has spread across the globe. . Although many have tried to duplicate Buffalo Wings, the closely guarded secret recipe is what makes Frank & Teressa's the proclaimed 'Best Wings in the World.'
Favorite Dish: I think you'll know what to order!

The Anchor Bar is the legendary Buffalo establishment that invented Buffalo Chicken Wings. While the wings are a tad different now and the bar is under new ownership, it still displays the old Buffalo spirit of friendly, no-frills comradeship. While the neighbourhood around it has deteriorated somewhat, it still manages to keep the feeling of Buffalo's exuberant past alive.

My favorite Restaurant in Buffalo has to be Mighty Taco. I just love a good extra hot Super Mighty with halepenos. I always have 2. I only get back to the area about twice a year. My second favorite isn't in Buffalo but rather in a little place called Water Valley. The Water Valley Inn. This place is run by a friend of mine named Debbie. Try it sometime, you will not be dis-appointed.
The prices are great and the portions are huge.
Favorite Dish: Super Mighty at Mighty Taco, and Steak and Shrimp at The Water Valley Inn.
