Lets start with the Ancor Bar, you know, home of the wing. Othere great local spots are Mighty Taco, Louies Texas Hots, Hillview Restaurant / Diner, Olympus, Ted's Texas Hots, another trip to Mighty Taco, The Buffalo Brew Pub, Cheers, Picasso's Pizza, and desert at Mighty Taco just to name a few. I dare you to find better food in any other city!

The Anchor Bar: Ok, Ok, Buffalo is the Home of the Chicken Wing

by taradactyl Written Sep 21, 2003

The Original Home of the Chicken Wing- They really do have the best wings in the city (and the best service- my best friend works there!) ....

Go there on a Friday or Saturday night after 8pm - Jazz great Do Do Green and band performs (she looks about 70, but we think she's in her 90s!) . They're great- this place is the real thing - and really reflects the city - Great food, Great music, friendly people and a laid back vibe (i mean, you're ripping apart wings, drinking alcohol while listening to some of the finest jazz tunes around)

Favorite Dish: Chicken Wings, of course (tip. order them extra crispy, medium sauce)

    My favorite Restaurant in...

by Gert Written Aug 24, 2002

My favorite Restaurant in Buffalo has to be Mighty Taco. I just love a good extra hot Super Mighty with halepenos. I always have 2. I only get back to the area about twice a year. My second favorite isn't in Buffalo but rather in a little place called Water Valley. The Water Valley Inn. This place is run by a friend of mine named Debbie. Try it sometime, you will not be dis-appointed.
The prices are great and the portions are huge.

Favorite Dish: Super Mighty at Mighty Taco, and Steak and Shrimp at The Water Valley Inn.

    Oliver's Restaurant: Oliver's Restaurant

by penpoison Updated Sep 26, 2002

If you have a really special occasion such as graduation, engagement, etc. Oliver's is the place to go. The taster's menu includes a fixed list of dishes with a complementary wine or liquor for each dish. The price is extremely reasonable for such a combo. In other major metropolitan areas, the prices would be much higher.

    Favorite Dish: The Taster's Menu

While it is not my favorite restaurant, I would also like to plug the Anchor Bar.
The Home of the Chicken Wing. Created by Momma Theresa herself. They also have some wonderful live jazz if you hit the right night.

Favorite Dish: Chicken Wings, of course. The rest of the menu leaves a lot to be desired.

Anchor Bar: Birthplace of Buffalo wings

    by meteorologist1 Updated Aug 9, 2008
Buffalo wings at the Anchor Bar
    2 more images

The Anchor Bar is the birthplace of the famous Buffalo wings which is nowadays enjoyed all over the United States. The restaurant was established in 1935 and the first wings were served in 1964. They have a complete menu featuring American favorites including sandwiches and pizza, but the main point to come here is to eat their world famous chicken wings.

Favorite Dish: The Buffalo wings come in 5 different flavors: Mild, medium, hot, spicy BBQ, and something called "suicidal". You can order sets of 10, 20, or 50 wings. We tried the medium flavor which was absolutely delicious, and then we decided to order suicidal. It was extremely hot! (I can usually eat a lot of spicy food, but this was too hot for me as well. Your lips will start to feel numb.) The first 3 or 4 suicidal wings you can probably tolerate, but after that you need to stop for a while and drink water. But this was a great experience! You have to try their wings.

The Dockside Inn on the Erie Canal

This is a small, modest restaurant on the Erie Canal. It's just a regular place. Nothing real fancy here, just good food at a good price.

Favorite Dish: I had a sandwich.
