  • This American style restaurant is right on Main Street in Canandaigua. And when I say right on the street I mean they have a raised cafe area right on the street, besides the main dining area indoors. The place is open nightly after 3pm (and all day Saturday and Sunday).

    Inside there is a full bar and dining room. The atmosphere is casual, with dark wood and overhead lighting. The tables are American style with comfortable wooden chairs.
    The staff are local people ready to serve with a smile. After taking your drink order, the waitress will get your meal order started after giving you a few minutes to peruse the menu. The meal is served within 15 minutes (enough time for a little chat and to finish the drink).
    Both the steak and the chicken are good choices (they also have Italian dinners and vegetarian wraps) and they come with mashed potatoes and a choice of vegetable. You can also order an appetizer or soup or salad (at a small extra cost).

    The meal was good and the price was $15 per person (reasonable for this area).

    The place is never really overcrowded so reservations are not necessary. The phone number is given below if you want to reserve though.

    Bristol Harbour Inn has a very nice restaurant for fine dining or an upscale buffet.

    The Adirondack style decor is all knotty pine and big beams with candle sconces and framed paintings on the walls. The tables are heavy wood construction with white linen accent.
    It is a very classy place to eat. The patio eating area has a great overlook onto Canandaigua Lake and is a little bit less formal and much more airy than the dining room.

    The dinner selection is very upscale. Boulliabasse, Potato Crusted Salmon, Skillet Seared Tilapia (heck, I cannot even pronounce some of these menu items). The tenderloin steak dinner is my speed (meat and potatoes kind of guy).
    The service is smiley but a bit stiff (not much on the conversation aspect) and they seem to know just when you are ready to order and when you need something. I like that. The meal is served without much wait and is cooked to order (steak, medium well; just a little burnt on the edges but some juices left inside). Strawberry cheesecake for two for dessert.

    All of this finery and class comes at a price. Best to figure about $40 per person (not including tip) by the time you add in drinks and dessert.

  • The atmosphere is very bar-and-grill with upscale customers. The service was good indoors but we decided to take one of the patio tables and felt like disowned relatives. My kids have been there many times and explained that this was not normal.
    When we finally got served, the food was delicious. Large portions of salad, with a nice turkey club sandwich; the others got steaks cooked to the way they like them. MacGregor's specializes in a good selection of beers, so if you are in to that, then you'll like it there.

    The prices were average for the area (it was our anniversary so we did not have to foot the bill).

  • Large portions, Extremely delicious. Across the street from the lakeshore.

  • This place is huge. Restaurant, Patio/deck, accomodates probably 200 people.
    The view is everywhere. Two sides of the building face Canandaigua Lake and the patio area is right on the lake shore. The windows are wide and tall and in winter there is a large fireplace blazing (with artificial logs of course). The beams on ceiling and wall are real (recycled from structures in Ontario, Canada). The decor is heavy wood and gray stone indoors with both open and sheltered sections on the patio. On the walls are memorabilia of winter activities (similar to what they have in ski lodges).
    There is even a gift shop where you can get souveniers (tee-shirts, pins, magnets) from the area as well as hand-crafted trinkets and home-made jams/jellies/dips.

    Oh yeah, they serve food too.....
    The prime rib is fantastic, juicy, tender; the turkey breast roasted in cranberries is good too.
    If you are there for breakfast, they have a somewhat limited selection of pancakes and waffles but they aren't bad. Their omelet italian-style with spinach, peppers and provolone is very good.
    Chocolate covered strawberries (BIG ones) and cheese cake make a fine dessert.

    They do weddings and banquets and large family gatherings.
    The prices are not cheap but they are about normal for the Rochester-Syracuse area.

    Chocolate covered strawberries are a must.
