  • A Town for the Generations

Favorite thing: There is one tiny spot where a bronze plaque is mounted marking the spot as a landmark. Its location is on Middle Country Road directly in front of what is now a martial arts facility between Aboffs Paints and what is to be a new CVS Pharmacy. On that site there once stood the New Village (subsequently named Centereach) Public School built in 1861. There are two benches on either side of the plaque which is mounted on stone which have fallen into disrepair. As I pass by day after day I often wonder what life was like in Centereach in 1861 and how it has changed since then.

Fondest memory: Living here 28 years has brought many fond memories. Our church, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is a community within a community that has provided a warm and nuturing atmosphere. We have watched the children of neighbors grow, get married, stay in the area and raise children of their own. There is a real sense of security knowing that this is a town for the generations. Hopefully, this will not change.
