An Art Deco Bridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, spanning the East River, was built in 23 months - a rush job because it had to be ready in time for the World's Fair in Flushing Meadow Park. It officially opened on April, 29, 1939, and was widely hailed for its Art Deco design and clean lines, but unfortunately, it shook. Over the years, more trussing and supports were added. It must have helped. When I was carpooled to Hebrew high school classes in Manhatten every Sunday, my friends and I never noticed a thing...

The bridge, the first to link the boroughs of Queens and the Bronx, is photographed here from the car taking me to Laguardia Airport.

    LaGuardia and JFK airports are...
  • Tip Rating:
  • LaGuardia and JFK airports are nearby; bus service will take you into Manhattan where you can take the #7 train into Flushing.
Trains, buses and taxis (be careful with taxis, there are a few ripoff artists).
