Grand Island Things to Do

Fantasy Island is an entertainment park with rides and food vendors and midway games and live bands, dancers and magicians. The cost is $20 for a day pass. It is open from June to September generally from 11am to 7pm. It is also open for weekends only in May.

There are 100 rides, shows or attractions to keep you busy for hours. The rides are for all ages from kiddy rides to thrill rides; a height requirement exists for many of the more adult rides. There are merry-go-rounds and roller coasters and pirate ships and haunted houses. They have water rides and a wave pool and a huge water slide; great on the hot July and August days.

The entertainment shows occur at various parts of the park and times of day and are listed on the schedule sheet you get at the ticket counter. They have western shootouts; plays about princesses and dragons; puppet shows; local musicians and dancers.

The mid-way games are ones where you can pay your money, take your chances and maybe win a stuffed animal or a framed picture. I GOT IT, Roll-a-Ball, water-shoot races and many other carnival favorites make their appearance at the park.

There is a full restaurant with lunch menus. They have Belgian waffle stands; snack carts; a candy store; a gift shop with autographed souvenirs of your visit; plenty of places to get some ice-cold to eat or drink.

Jet boating up the Niagara River
Incredible experience taking a powerful jet boat upstream towards the falls. Guranteed thrills as the boat gets tossed around in the swells and whirlpools along the way. Not for the feint hearted - you will be soaked from head to toe and swallow a fair amount of tasty Niagara water!

Stopped in here for lunch with the family back in the 1990s. The place wasn't busy and we got served right away by a very nice waitress. Of course, the kids could not make up their minds and the poor waitress had to use the eraser on her pencil often as they wrangled over who was going to have what. Finally, we got the order settled and it was served in about 15 minutes. Everything (burgers, fries, toasted cheese sandwich, coffee, cokes) just as we ordered.

This was a good family style restaurant that was not put out by a loud group of kids. We had to take up two adjacent booths and luckily it wasn't a very busy day. The restrooms were very clean. The waitress was great and got a good tip.

Grand Island Warnings and Dangers

If the winters around Buffalo weren't so bad, I would consider moving to Grand Island. The crime stats for the whole island are almost off the bottom of the charts; they are that low. The crime reports show this place as an "extremely low risk" for an individual becoming a crime victim. It is on the list of the top 5% of safe places to visit in New York State. There is only one sex offender register for the many square miles of the island.

This is an ideally safe place to bring a family for a summer vacation. (It probably is just as safe in winter but the weather is pretty brutal then).

cold weather is only problem here

'The Magic Factory'-there is a factory across the water that when you drive to it, it appears to back up and when you drive away, it appears to come closer..very cool! Directions to follow.. (incidentally, it is right near The Village Inn)
