Favorite thing: Because Greece is so close to Lake Ontario, we get a moderation in temperatures and weather conditions. The lake loses heat much slower than the land or air, so it tends to keep temperatures a bit warmer in winter. Also the lake heats up much slower than the land in summer which cools things down a bit.
In the winter, we get some biting temperatures in the teens when the winds come in from the south east. But usually, we get wintertime temperatures in the 20s and 30s with some sun and blue sky.

Spring starts here in mid-April with the lilac festival and the crocuses (which may sprout as early as the last frost in March). We tend to have very gray skies and lots of days of rain for March and April. But then it starts to warm and the flowers bloom by May.

Summers are relatively dry for July and August. These are months that it is nice to have a pool or the time to go up to the beaches on Lake Ontario. Once in a while we have "brown outs" (short durations when the electric power is not at full capacity) due to the number of coolers and airconditioners that are used in the area during the summer.

Fall comes in spurts. The nights tend to cool off first, starting in September. But the days sta balmy and the leaves begin to change to nice colors. Then we get stretches of cold days mixed with warms days throughout October. By Halloween, it is starting to get into overcoat whether but snow will not normally fall until December. So November is iffy with short spurts of "Indian Summer".

Favorite thing: recently (2006-2007) Ridge Road in Greece,NY has gone through some major overhauls.
gradually the whole stretch from I-390 to Elmgrove Road is turning into a six-laned meridian highway.
so you can't make a left-hand turn into the driveway or parking lot you want as you did before because there are only openings in the meridian at the stop lights. now you go PAST the place you'd LIKE to turn and go to the NEXT stop light and make a legal U-TURN (they even have signs advertising this) and head back up the road and make a RIGHT turn into the place you were trying to get to.
and to make things even more confusing: the traffic coming at you and wanting to make a U-turn from their side, passes you head-on on your right side (shades of England!).

Favorite thing: Sometimes you are on vacation and need to know the location of a nearby religious organization which you prefer. I know we often ask where the local Catholic Church is when we are on a trip.

Fondest memory: Not exactly fondest memory - but definitely the funniest: A friend and I were walking up Lykavitos (I think) Hill in Athens, talking about how strange the men are in Greece. It was noon during a weekday and the place was deserted. We walked around a corner and right in front of us were these 2 Greek men with their dicks out, masturbating, making animal noises and...REVVING THEIR SCOOTER ENGINES!!! We were totally gobsmacked and stood there for about 5 seconds before silently leaving the way we'd come....pissed ourselves laughing all the way down....

My hometown..... Greece, NY (suburb of Rochester)
like everyone else, I think my hometown is the greatest place to grow up. But the place has really changed from being a large town to being a sub-city with as many people and area as metropolitan...
I was born here and schooled here and live here. I will probably die here too. It is a good thing that it is a nice place.
