Hamlin Beach State Park Things to Do
There is a strip of sand about 20 yards deep and 100 yards long which is approved for swimming in the park. They have lifeguards and watchers on duty at certain times of certain days. The beach is normally very clean (evening and morning crews do trash pickup) and there are litter cans and don't litter signs all along the beach area.
Just behind the beach area there are picnic tables among the trees so you can get some shade if you wish. A short walk from the beach is a food stand where you can get hotdog or hamburg or ice cream cone or a cold drink.
I don't think there are any rules about not eating on the beach but the park is adamant about cleaning up after yourself so that the park will stay clean for all visitors. The picnic areas have grills and tables for eating and trees for shade.
At certain times of the year, the lake has what is called "churning" where layers lower in the lake water are rapidly brought to the surface. Also there are times when the lake has an overpopulation of small fish. During both of those times the lake does not have a very good odor and often has seaweed or bloated fish bodies along the shore. You might want to contact the website below if you are planning to visit the park to find out when the unpleasant periods occur.Related to:
