The annual Classic Boat Show and Regatta for the Wine Country is held again (25th season) at Hammonds port. The event usually is the third weekend in July. (Call the phone number below for details).
A fleet of antique and specially-built boats are on display at the marina and in the south end of Keuka Lake. Events begin at 10am and last until 6pm. Besides the boats to view and the owners to talk to, there are food vendors to curb your appetite and souvenier sellers to sell you momentos of the occasion.
You can even rent a ride on one of the classic power boats (not very inexpensive however).
The people in Hammondsport (like many of the other Finger Lake communities) celebrate the Festival of Lights called Genundowa. This is the modern celebration of an ancient Native American tradition. During the day, downtown Hammondsport bristles with Indian (Seneca, Iroquois) souveniers and handicraft. At night, bonfires are lit and dances and revelry take place. Road flares are often used at residences to add to the light show around the lakefront.
The event is in late August or early September.
See the events page (calendar) on the website shown below for exact details.
