Best Way to See Keuka Lake
Tom_Fields Says:
David and Lisa Wegman purchased the Esperanza Rose in 2003, and brought it here to Keuka Lake. Since 2005, this 65-foot wooden boat has cruised the waters of this lake. The narrated sightseeing tours give you the best views of this beautiful body of water. Boarding is at...
Glenn Curtiss Museum
Tom_Fields Says:
While the Wright Brothers were inventing the airplane, a young cyclist and mechanic named Glenn Curtiss was right on their heels. Curtiss shared many things with the Wrights, starting with the love of bicycles. He invented motorcycles, including one (with an outsized V-8...
up the hill to Bully Hill.....
davecallahan Says:
Bully Hill Vineyards is way up the side of the hills overlooking Keuka Lake. Even if you are not into wine drinking or sipping or touring, then you owe it to yourself to go up there for the view. The area used to be the Greyton-Walter Taylor Winery which incorporated into...
on the road to Hammondsport......
davecallahan Says:
On route 54 going north from Bath, NY to Hammondsport, NY, you will see the sign for Curtiss Museum. You owe it to yourself to stop in and browse. It is mostly about planes but Glenn Curtiss was into motors and motorcycles (and names ending in double letters) as well.It cost...
Arts and Antiques galore.....
davecallahan Says:
Rather than have an individual tip for every one of the antique and gift shops in Hammondsport, I decided to put them all in one To-Do list. To me, one shop is as good as another; to my wife, each is a safari!Browsers Village Square33 Shethar Streetartwork and photography,...
Konstantin Frank Wine Cellar
davecallahan Says:
Another stop on the Finger Lakes wine-tasting tour. This place was unique in that their was no tour of the winery, just a tasting room where you were given form and pencil to rate several wines. (like I always say, "cut out the middleman and go right to the bottle"). There...
Heron Hill Winery
davecallahan Says:
Heron Hill..... Another of the prestigious wineries along the Finger Lakes touring route. This place I found to be more "commercial" than let's say, the Bully Hill winery. They seemed to cater to more structured events and prescheduled groups. We tend to be more in-the-moment...
Bully Hill Vineyards: Bully Hill VineYards addendum
davecallahan Says:
I am adding this as extra data in support of the previous post about Bully Hill.Bully Hill Vineyards (and Restaurant) is an extension of the centuries old family Taylor Wines. It was established as a winery in 1970. It is now one of eleven Bully Hill owns in the...
There are a few restaurants in...
John195123 Says:

Well, the best way to get here...
Helpfulness

Well, the best way to get here is by car. There is a Greyhound bus that stops by the Bath terminal. Anyway from Buffalo, take 20 to 63 to 390, exit at Bath. Go through Bath following signs for 54. Follow 54 until you get to Hamondsport. There is a point in Bath where you turn on to 54. It is kind of in town, and you'll know it is the right place if you pass a gas station on your left (Mobile) and then keep going until you see a small information building/kiosk. Turn right there. If you travek Greyhound, I don't yet know how you could get from Bath to Hammondsport. I've always had a ride.
In Hammondsport, you can basically walk wherever you want to go (in town). There are places where you need a car.

Boat Show and Regatta
davecallahan Says:
The annual Classic Boat Show and Regatta for the Wine Country is held again (25th season) at Hammonds port. The event usually is the third weekend in July. (Call the phone number below for details).A fleet of antique and specially-built boats are on display at the marina and...
Need a light?.....
davecallahan Says:
The people in Hammondsport (like many of the other Finger Lake communities) celebrate the Festival of Lights called Genundowa. This is the modern celebration of an ancient Native American tradition. During the day, downtown Hammondsport bristles with Indian (Seneca,...
crime stats
davecallahan Says:
The crime stats for Hammondsport puts the town in the upper 20% of safe cities in New York. But Hammondsport has more thefts/burglaries than the average American town. So be sure to lock doors and use the latch-chain and secure your valuables in the motel safebox as common...
Designated Driver
davecallahan Says:
If you are going on wine tasting tours, it really is best to book one of the tours that have vehicles with designated drivers who stay sober and drop you off and pick you up later at each of the stops in the tour.If you are doing self-guided tours (like we do), then one in...
Three things to be sure to have.....
davecallahan Says:
Comfortable shoes are a must: for sightseeing, for climbing hills on the winery tours, for standing at the bar while tasting wines
Sun glasses during the summer because there is definitely a glare off the lake and the clear air in the hills will dry you eyes out on a...
Packing List
John195123 Says:
Don't dress too much like a tourist here. They'll probably recognize you if you're from town, and if you're not, they'll know, but they don't need obvious reminders. Dress casual here!
This is a beautiful area... wineries in the sunset light... old barns... lots of film,...
The Finger Lakes region is...
John195123 Says:
The Finger Lakes region is really beautiful. Unfortunately, most people look at NEW YORK and only think of the city...but no, New York is much more. I suggest, if you visit the finger lakes region, get off the main roads and just drive down some of the sprawling, hilly...
Biking is not that big in...
John195123 Says:
Biking is not that big in Hammondsport, but it is fun. There is a place called Bully Hill, a winery and restaurant way up above the lake. For some reason I decided one day to bike up the long, steep hill to it, then turn around and fly (almost literally) back down the hill,...
John195123's General Tip
John195123 Says:
I sailed many years ago on Keuka Lake with my uncle, who lived near there, in Bath. It was really cool watching his cute psycho dog, Sadie, fall into the water,,, we had to come about to get the wet animal, but I guess that's okay. :)
John195123's General Tip
John195123 Says:
Camping out in one of the fields up on the hillside surrounding Hammondsport. Tanguera and I camped out there under a crystal sky with a full moon lighting the whole land... it was beautiful! This photo is of my girl, tanguera.
