In October in 2009 the Walkway over the Hudson finally opened up. This had been a much anticipated opening nearly a decade in the making. The walkway is built upon the old railway tracks and stands over 200 feet above the Hudson River. The views from the Walkway are simply amazing. The walk is just over 1.25 miles in each direction. Richie and I parked on the Highland side of the river and made the round trip walk in just under an hour. There are a couple of viewers you can use to look up and down stream. The machines take a quarter to operate. The great thing about the walkway is that you can bike it, walk it, skate it or run it. It is pet friendly as long as you pick up after your pet and have them on a leash. Richie and I joked that we could dog shop here due to the large number of dogs of different breeds that we saw. When you come make sure you bring a sweater or a hoodie as it is very windy so high up. This is free and both lots on either side of the river have plenty of parking either in the lot or near it.
