There are no public means of transportation within 20 miles of Huron, nor are there any commercial means either (limo, taxi, car rental, dial-a-bus).
The only real means of transportation is private car. With your own car you can get to all of the tourist attractions by means of route 104, route 14 or route 414, or on Lummisville Road or old Ridge Road. All other roads in the area are secondary roads with no travelers facilities on them. There are gas stations on old Ridge Road, route 414 and route 14.
Like many of the sprawling rural townships in upstate New York, Huron is not just one central population but many smaller communities united under one governing body.
The local communities are:
Bonni Castle... southeast side of Sodus Bay
East Bay Park... hamlet near Lake Ontario on the west side of East Bay
part of Furnace Village... http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/d6398/cce52/
Huron Village(South Huron)... at routes 155 and 156.
Lake Bluff... hamlet on northeast side of Sodus Bay at route 154
Lummisville... hamlet on route 155
North Huron... hamlet northeast of Huron on route 156
Resort (Port Glasgow)... hamlet on Sodus Bay at route 143
Rice Mill (Rices Settlement)... hamlet on route 155
Sunset View... hamlet on the east side of Sodus Bay
York... hamlet southwest of town
I could find no negative data about Huron. It is a very non-crime village. The area doesn't even register at the 10% risk for crime, so it is so safe it is off the risk charts.
The area is popular for hunters in the Fall of the year so remember to wear bright colors if you are in the woods then.
Use common sense and the normal precautions you would use at home and you should have a safe and happy visit to Huron.
