Irondequoit Mall: Irondequoit Mall... no, that's not right.....
When they first started building a group of stores in that area of the Ridge Road that is now Medley Centre, it was just the Ridge Plaza. Years later it was encapsulated into a large indoor structure called Irondequoit Mall. After a brief rise in popularity. the mall made a meteoric plummet, succumbing to the down-trend of the neighborhood; shop-lifting became a major problem for the proprietors, purse snatchings in the parking lot scared the shoppers. At the edge of failure and with most of the major-name business going to other locations, an entrepeneur began a corporation to reverse the trend and he started by changing the name (to Medley Centre) and the focus of the stores. The aim is to draw the twentyers and young families with hip businesses and fashions. Their new website is even snappy and fresh.
Presently (2006) there are about 40 name-brand stores and 5 eateries as well as scheduled attractions to draw the crowds on holiday weekends. I have noticed an increased usage of the parking lots over the last six months (we drive past that area at least once a week).
To promote business and encourage people to shop there (instead of somewhere else), the mall and its constituent stores have deluged the local papers with coupons. So if you are in the area and want to visit this mall, be sure to buy the D&C paper or the PennySaver weekly and clip the coupons.
What to buy: this mall is specializing in young family needs: clothes, shoes, electronic goodies.
it also has anchor stores like: Sears and Macys

If it has anything to do with music especially rock-and-roll, then it is here that you'll find it.
The owners are sharp enterpreneurs who have ties into many of the music industry's big names. Anyone who is anyone in rock and roll and comes to entertain in Rochester, ends up talking to one of the Schaubroeck Brothers at their Irondequoit store.
There are over 10000 "records" in the store; aisles and aisles of guitars and amps and drum kits; memorabilia from every band that has played at the various venues in Rochester.
Stop in and browse; they love to talk about music whether you buy anything or not.
If you are really lucky you may even get to be in one of their avante garde commercials.
