By Air: Tompkins County Airport. US Air flies into this airport. Very tiny airport that has been recently remodeled (for those who remember the 2 gates and the truck that delivered your luggage) to include several gates and indoor baggage claim. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Syracuse airport by 78Eva Although Ithaca has its own airport (Tompkins Regional Airport), it is fairly expensive flying in there. I usually fly into Syracuse airport - it also has the most connections to bigger airports. However, sometimes there are also good deals to Elmira/Corning airport, which is even closer. Both airports are very small and not intimidating at all. Leave a Comment

If you are like me, you depend on your car for travel. However, once in Ithaca, if you plan to go up to Cornell during the week, do NOT drive there. A Cornell visitor parking pass on campus is $8/day, and parking spots are limited, quite rare if you do not know the campus well enough. A better solution is to take the Tcat Bus that runs throughout Ithaca and surrounding area, $1/one way. However, if you want to see the beauty of the area, make sure you have a car at your disposal for the duration of your stay in Ithaca. Leave a Comment

central New York by Michael_D ITHACA is between Binghamton 20mi south and Syracuse 60mi north but most people head 90 mi northwest to Rochester for a larger city experience. Or they trek 240mi south to New York City;-) BUS Take a Greyhound Bus from Port Authority (800 231-2222). Greyhound buses arrive in Ithaca just a few blocks away from the downtown Commons area. Travel time from NYC: 4.5 -5 hours CAR: GW Bridge to I-80 WEST to I-380 West, then I-81 North to Exit 8, then Rt. 79 West into Ithaca, turn right onto Route 13 North. Travel time from NYC: 4.5 hours OTHER: Tompkins Airport is serviced by US Airways. There are a number of car rental agencies at the airport and in the area. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by KPajonas Car, Bike, or Foot are your best bets. Be careful though - there are lots of hills! Here's a peak of what you'll find at the Cornell Plantations. Theme: Other

Ithaca by Michael_D Ithaca has been rated the best place in the Northeast to retire. I knew that years ago, but now there may be an influx of people. Though driving is the best way to get around Ithaca (its still a small city) the Ithaca region does have a very good bus system for a city of its size. It is called the TCAT, and if you are going between Downtown Ithaca and Cornell University, it is very easy to use as there are many different routes. Downtown is the center of the system, with routes that connect downtown to Ithaca College, Pyramid Mall and other areas. Good maps are located at the larger bus stops. The buses are newer, clean and safe. Note that more buses run during the day, as it is primarily a commuter system, and much less at night or on the weekends. However, if you are staying downtown or elsewhere, and need to get up to the Cornell campus for a special event such as graduation, you are probably better off taking the bus from downtown up to the school because parking can get tight on campus.
