A car is the chief means of transportation to aand from and round about Kanona.

The town is right off exit 37 of the I-86 Southern Tier Expressway.
Primary routes 415 and 53 both cut right through town.
I-390, the Genesee Expressway is just 4 miles northwest of town.
Access by car is very easy. Once you are in town, there are plenty of secondary roads to give you access to the sights nearby. These roads are not as wide as the primary ones; they are not lit at night except in the residential areas; they are maintained fairly well in all seasons.
The general speed limit on the primary and secondary roads is 55mph unless posted for 35mph in the residential sections. The expressways speeds are 65mph (everyone does 72mph with impunity).

Enterprise Rental (607-776-4141) in Bath (7 miles east of Kanona) has cars for rent if you need one.
JT Taxi (607-769-8920) or Buds Taxi (607-776-7670) are both within 5 miles and will service the Kanona area.
Greyhound Bus has a station in Bath at 51 Liberty Street (1-800-858-8555).

winters can be harsh and beautiful

Favorite thing: Winter in Kanona is rather harsh. Sub-zero wind chill; feet of snow; whiteouts that make driving difficult; three-foot snow drifts across the secondary roads; freezing rain that weighs down the electric wires and causes blackouts. But all of this is interspersed with a few days of sun shine and blue skies and temperatures in the forties when the reflection off the snow and road requires you to drive with sunglasses.

By mid-April you are into the rainy Spring weather that floods the farmfields and overflows the street gutters in town. Luckily the rains taper to light showers and then just sprinkles by mid-May and the flowers bloom.

Summer really kicks in about mid-June and then heats up rapidly and steadily to regular daily temperatures in the 80s and 90s. Warm breezes blow across the fields and the corn fields are covered with stalks getting ready for harvest.

Fall comes in shortly after the kids go back to school and quickly cools things off and changes the green fields to pale withered cornstalks and the trees to reds, greens and browns. This is probably the prettiest time of year in the region.
