Don't get ripped off at the souvenir shop!

Along the main road that goes thru Lake Placid is a long string of shops. Make sure you do a cost comparison if you really want that sweatshirt, t-shirt or other souvenir. You may find the prices are a little lower (~$5 or so) if you look for the items in the adjacent towns.

Unique Suggestions: Know your prices. Ask if there's "any savings" if you bought 3 or more (depending on how many you're looking to buy, of course). And look at the label and see where it's made.
(Hmm...made in China, eh?) But if you don't get it, the other tourist suckers will buy it, so there may not be any negotiating on single or multiple items.

Fun Alternatives: Be prepared to walk out if the price is too expensive. People do it all the time.

High Falls Gorge

For $9 per person, you can walk a VERY short path (less than a half a mile round trip ) and see a few waterfalls. It was a disappoinment to me because it is billed as "One of the four natural wonders " of the Adirondacks. Don't get me wrong, the falls are pretty, but there is beauty everywhere in the Adirondacks which you can see for free.

Unique Suggestions: Maybe I am spoiled because I live in an area where there are many waterfalls and gorges within less than an hours drive from me.
If you live in a big city , you may really enjoy High Falls Gorge ......just don't expect a nice long hike. We were there for only 15 minutes.

Fun Alternatives: There are many, many scenic views and places for hiking ,waterfalls etc in the Adirondacks. While you are driving, there are many parking areas where you can stop and take a nice walk or just view some pretty scenery .....for free.

Run, doggie, run!

5$ for 1/2 mile,
10$ for 3/4 mile

The dogs just walk around in a circle...

Unique Suggestions: take the 5$ ride.. better "value"

Fun Alternatives: Chose a real dog sledding venue and service..
