(This same tip was placed in the Syracuse Guide where it is more likely to be seen)

Nice family park(s) area of northwest Syracuse,NY. Easily accessible from NY Thruway (I-90) via exit 38 to Oswego Street south (NY57).

On Oswego Street you will find Onondaga Lake Park and Long Branch Park and the Salt Museum and St. Marie of the Iroquois all within a few miles. There are also several restaurants and small shops on Oswego Street.

Long Branch has(had) small amusement area, walking trails, picnic area and playground. Onondaga Park has the Salt Mine Museum, a skate park (cement ramps), picnic areas, a tour-shuttle, walking/riding paths and several playgrounds.

St. Marie of the Iroquois is a two story building housing a museum and artifact center for Iroquois Indian history. Well kept and informative with a small Indian village behind and up the hill from the main building

Liverpool Warnings and Dangers

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

One out of 10 New York towns is fairly safe to live in.
Liverpool is one of those places. The most prevelant crimes are ones involved with property (theft, burglary, car break-ins).
But of the 2500 residents of Liverpool, 14 of them are registered sex offenders.
Fairly warned is well-armed. Please be careful with small children in the several parks in Liverpool.
(to see details about the SOs, use the website below)

Just by using common sense precautions, you can reduce your chances for being targeted while enjoying the area.
Lock car doors; use the latch-chain on the motel door; don't act like a tourist but try to blend in; keep valuables in a safe place (lockbox, trunk of car, money belt); know where the kids are if they are traveling with you.

the green dots in the accompanying map are hazard waste sites (industries, dumps, chemical storage areas). There is a proliferation of these sites in the Liverpool area
