 | | | | Lawan Thai Restaurant: They are really Thai | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Long Island restaurants are never really suprising. They take meat cook it, plate it and never dress it. Fish only gets broiled or fried and the burger seems to be staple. Ethnicity is usually forged, where Chinese is AMERICAN CHINESE, Koreans make so called SUSHI, Mexicans make Japanese, and well the food just usually plain SUCKS. Yuki and I come from a wide variety of tastes and search high and low, far and near for food that will at least set a smile and leave us with a feeling that it was money well spent. Till now the price hasn't fit the taste until happening upon LAWAN. Thai in its origin, (chef and staff as well) the food was right on. Currys were perfect, duck was taken out of the frier in time, Pad Thai noodles to correct Al Dente-ness, decor brought you worlds away with a clean distinguished look not over-done, and there was Thai spoken on premises. I would give this place whatever letter comes before A+++.
That Duck with pineapples in Red Curry. Lick my chops over and over. Leave a Comment Theme: Pan-Asian and Pacific RimPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 13 East Main Street, Patchogue, LI, NYPhone: (631) 687 1313Website: http://www.lawan.biz/index1.htm

 | | | | Azerbaijan - Westbury: Best Falafel on Long Island | Satisfaction: | | | | |
Azerbaijan is a great break from sushi for us. It is conviniently located close to the biggest Long Island Mall in Westbury. Place has a great atmosphere, about 12 tables, and great service (unless they are training someone new :-)
We usually get there Falafel Platter, which consists of 3 large falafel balls, fabulus rice, hummus and grilled vegetable. We also enjoy their appetaizers like Sigara Borek, Kashkeh Badenjan, Buran..... all right, just check their web site!!! | | | | Coutry Kitchen: Not staple, but the German pankakes, G'damn | Satisfaction: | | | | |
In the heart of LI Wine Country this spot makes for a easy layover, a much needed sponge to sop up some of the wine that may be filling your insides by now. The menu was rather suprising, creative for being this far from NYC. The taste, perfect for lunch, and not so heavy for those who roil the town over for a "light lunch". I got down with the German Strawberry Pankakes and Yukes gorged herself with the Salmon. All done perfectly. I must mention their wine list, Lenz winery (a favorite of mine) produced some wines specifically for them for the by the glass sale. They also have a few other local wines taking up spot.
German Strawberry Pankakes, doughy heaven. | | | | Dockers Waterside Restaurant and Marina: Warning - Worst Service on Dune Road | Satisfaction: | | | | |
Good food and good service are lacking at this establishment. The fried flounder and chicken sandwich were tasteless. I asked for the relish for the chcken on the side. It came on the sandwich. We never received our carafe of water with lemon slices. I waited ten minutes for lemon slices for my tasteless chicken. One tip - do NOT wear jeans and sneakers or ride a motorcycle to this restaurant. You will be treated like second class citizens. Instead wear silly looking floppy hats and those ugly brightly colored plastic shoes. One couple came in matching stripes with their dog in a baby carriage. Did we forget it was Halloween? The dog was pulled close enough to the table that it could have eaten from the table! Another gentleman had on extremely tight red, white and pink print pants with a pink shirt. A single diner had on loafers with no socks, tight trousers and a tucked in T-shirt that barely covered his large stomach. But, do NOT wear jeans and sneakers or ride in on a motorcycle! The staff is very inexperienced. The food is overpriced ($56 for two sandwiches and four bottled beers). Thank goodness there's a water view or you'd really feel like you were taken. My husband still left a large tip (probably more than the silly looking hat and shoe people left). He has a bad habit of overtipping because he feels these young people work hard. But, none of the staff there that day deserved a tip. They were actually rude. My husband overheard one of the staff say, "Did they leave yet?" The other staff member replied, "No the bike is still in the parking lot." How crass and unprofessional! Please note that my husband and I are in our early 50s and our Honda motorcyle is very quiet. The jeans and sneakers were for safety while riding. Do yourself a favor and eat at any other restaurant on Dune Road. You will find a warm, friendly and experienced staff, something sorely lacking at Dockers! And remember, if you still decide to go to Dockers, do NOT wear jeans and sneakers or arrive on a motorcycle!
Your best bet may be a salad. Theme: AmericanPrice: US$41 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Dune Road, East Quogue, NY
