Luggage and bags: If you over shop you can buy these one-time bags made of nylon for 1.99. Stuff your NY t-shirts in them for a budget bag. They are usually blue and white colored. They are durable and hold alot of stuff, made in China.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Seems like the only people dressing up are the tourists, makes them easy to spot. We went to dinner w/ a local NY guy. Went to a top restaurant where you need reservations way in advance. He was in jeans and his lady friend was in capris and practical shoes. New Yorkers are practical. Be practical and dress casual.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Take anything with you since everything is expensive there as far as toiletries go. Maybe if you are from England, maybe not.

Miscellaneous: You can buy temporary cell phones in the U.S. now for 39.95 that are good for a year. Buy them at any pharmacy or store. You just use a calling card with them. A great way to go for extended trips.
