DRIVE TO NEW PALTZ AND MOHONK MOUNTAIN HOUSE

  • To get to the Village of New Paltz, Mohonk Mountain House, or Minnewaska State Park, you are going to need some form of motorized transportation. I would not suggest trying to bike to the Mountain House or Minnewaska State Park from the Village. The roads are steep and loaded with semi-blind spots.

  • While in the Village of New Paltz, I highly suggest you find a place to park your car and walk the rest. The shops and restaurants are close enough that you walk just about anyplace here. If you decide to head up to Mohonk Mountain House, you'll need your car, since public transportation isn't very handy here.

  • To get to New Paltz and the surrounding areas you need to have a car. Not only does this give you the freedom to move around and see all this area has to offer, it is very close to the only option to get here.

  • This really sucks, I am sitting in my hotel room stranded because the ONLY taxi service in this city only has one driver, He took my name down and I am going to get a taxi in an hour and a half. If you cant come here in a car, at least think ahead and rent a bike for the entire time you are here, I came for the skydiving, cant wait for that, but I want to go out! They can have some of our taxi drivers from New York City!!!

  • Most people will be arriving by car. It's exit 18 off the NY State Thruway (87). Head west on 299, the town is about 3 miles west of 87. Trailways bus also stops there, I assume the bus comes from NYC which is about 90 miles away.
    Walk or bike. Find a parking spot, feed the meter and stroll. Everything is within walking distance. You will see loads of bikes and there are a couple of places to rent bikes if you want to feel like a local.
