Favorite thing: The Apple Store on 5th Avenue (located on the south-eastern side of Central Park near 58th Street), not only has many Apple techno-stuff to drool all over, but you can also surf the internet using one of their many computers and/or laptops all for free!
I accidently stumbled across this. I suppose it's a good way for Apple to show-off their stuff to potential customers.
Otherwise, I didn't find too many options in New York to surf the net. I found that Burger King burger places have internet facilities, and they charge about US$5.00 per 30 minutes.

Favorite thing: Easyeverything - Internet Cafe. Situated on 42nd Street/5th and 6th. I had never been in an internet cafe before, but couldnt resist popping in and letting a few of my vt friends know that we had arrived safely. Also as our son was on a school ski trip in Canada, I send him an email at his hotel to let him know we were safe in the Big Apple! The charges are I think based on how many people are in and using the terminals at any one time. There is a clock on the wall telling you that at that moment you will get something like '50 minutes' for $1. It is best that you have change because the cafe counter dont always like to give you change. They did for us, but when other people asked they said they couldnt spare any more change. You put your $1 in the machine (there is a facility for different languages) and you get a ticket with a number on. You find a terminal and log on inserting the number off the ticket. We never got less than about 45 minutes for $1. I thought it was great and well worth it if you want to stay in touch with friends and relations while you are away.
