Favorite thing: During our 7 day stay we would have walked past this library 6 or 7 times and always said what a nice building it was, however never found the time to go inside. Our loss could be your gain. On returning to Australia I read up about this Library designed in 1897 and opened in 1911 at the cost of $9 million. There are over 7 million books in this library which has outstanding decoration. Located on the corner of 5th Ave and 42nd street.

    The city of straight lines

Favorite thing: Not always New Yorks's streets have been designed in straight lines. New York owes is current look to John Randall Jr. who put more than 10 years into his research before the streets and avenues were created. The maps drown by Randall in 1811 can be seen in the Public Library on 42nd street.
As during the project evaluation many buildings had to be removed and streets and roads paved, Randell was literally chased by many people. Especially, those were owners of the properties that had to be removed. However, John Randall Jr's future vision became today's New York City's reality.

    big study room

Favorite thing: Wow this is a ver big study room, and what you see in the photo is just half of it. But you don't have to be a book worm to visit New York Public Library. I came here to see its architecture and use its free internet. A couple of weeks before my 2004 visit, I just watched an adventure movie "The Day after Tomorrow" and it had several scenes shot here.
