Layers, New York City
Luggage and bags:
Definately a sturdy lightweight bag or suitcase - you are bound to buy gifts whilst you are here!
A crossbody handbag is a must for ladies - I wouldn't recommend bringing anything you have to carry - its amazing what a pain it gets carrying abag round all day!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: I am a heels girl but wore them once - in our hotel bar. You MUST bring flats with you - you don't realise how much you walk - there is nothing worse than blistered, sore feet. I'm so glad i brought mine!
I would also advise bringing layers - you never know what the weather will do. We came end of november and the weather was really mild with the exception of one day - so glad i brought that mac!
I would advise a scarf, hat and gloves in the winter months and an umbrella the year round!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: You can buy these anyway - there are Duane Reade stores everywhere amongst others if you forget anything.
Photo Equipment: Available everywhere.
Miscellaneous: I would advise bringing the bare minimum with you if you intend to do any shopping. Many airlines now really whack up the excess luggage charges and gone are the days when they would overlook a few kgs.
Miscellaneous: Well, in NYC you will find everything if you miss something or forgot it at home. Casual clothes are always the best, since also in elegant restaurants there is no special dress code. Altough in summer it's very hot, dont forget a light pullover for indoor places, since air conditioning is very strong and never forget a portable umbrella or a rain hut (we had some summer strong showers).
Luggage and bags:
Traveling a long distance? Pack a small carry-on with 1-2 days change of clothes just in case. Use carry-on as much as possible, but when you can't don't get stuck with ALL clothes in Rome when you went to London.
You can always purchase toiletries at your desitnation. Don't bulk up a carry-on with things easily purchased.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Know your seasons....For NYC in the winter, layer is the watch word of the day. Layer, layer, layer; especially if you are from warmer climates.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: What ever you need can always be repurchased in most US cities in small enough sizes to not be a burden for carrying back. Then again, bringing the smaller sizes leaves you with less to carry back.
Photo Equipment: Hmm...tough one for me. I'm almost 100% digital, but for traveling and you don't "need the 400 F4, don't bring it. The "new" point and shoots are just fine for most "snap shots." Save the heavy stuff for the pros or people like me that don't mind carrying 40 pounds of equipment just "to get that shot."
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: You should take a jacket with a sweater, because New York is cold especially, when the season is winter.
