Amy Ruth's: The Authentic Soul of New York

It's hard to write about this restaurant because the food is just so good, it's hard to put into words. It's also the kind of place your cardiologist would prefer you never visit as the authentic soul is authentic to the tee, and you're not going to find low-fat anyting in this place. Amy Ruth's feels as if it has always existed. Located in Harlem, Carl Redding, the proprietor opened the restaurant a year (1998) after his grandmother, the resturant's namesake, passed away. What a tribute to her! Many of the dishes are named in tribute to prominent African American's, and they should be ecstatic as the meals are all as noteworthy as they are. From the honey-dipped fried chicken to the side of backed macaroni and cheese. Every morsel is a delicious as the next. Unfortuantely, the calories are something you cannot bother counting here. I try to limit my visits to just once a month, but it's well worth the wait. The restaurant has a very simple decor, the service is very friendly and attentive, and from time to time, the owner will stop by and greet you. I've also heard that they often have live music, though I have not seen it. Be sure to get there early as the place fills up fast. I usually go on a Tuesday or Wednesday (slower days) after work. I sure wish my grandmother cooked this good!

The restaurant serves breakfast as well.

Open 7:30 am to 11:00 PM Monday to Thursday and 24 hours from Friday to Sunday.

Favorite Dish: The Honey-dipped fried chicken is hands down the best. The ribs are also delicious, as is their cornbread, sooooooo good! Baked Mac and Cheese a must side dish! Candied sweet yams... oh boy!

Amy Ruth's: The Best Soul Food in Harlem

Soul Food that many argue is now the best in Harlem! This place features generous portions on their waffle menu, breakfast menu, sandwich menu, soups & vegan salads, entrees.

Their daily specials and desserts are named after a number of their famous patrons, including Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Bill Clinton.

    Fri-Sat-Sun 24/7, other days 7a-11p.

Favorite Dish: If you like the tangy taste of North Carolina-style barbeque, you’ll enjoy it here as well!

Soul food means home style southern cuisine.
I was brought here by a Japanese man who had lived in Harlem for more than 20 years.
He says he has eaten in the restaurant about 20,000 times! There is a dish named after him, 'the Tommy Tomita'.
Opening the menu book, you will find a lot of pictures of famous politicians and actors or actresses and musicians who came to the restaurant.

Favorite Dish: Spicy Fried Chicken Wings are very delicious.
And I like the corn bread served here very much.
Side orders such as Fried Okra and Collard Greens are also good.

I took out the leftover of Fried Chicken Wings, Corn Bread and Waffle ate them the next morning. They were as delicious as when I had them last night.

Very good food and good service. The ambience it okay it is not romantic but you can still be great place for a date. Very good for families too. They have a great waffle menu. I get the waffles and chicken of course. Everything is mostly good.

Favorite Dish: The Fishermen's Platter it has fried shrimp, catfish and crab cakes.
