August: August, Good Anytime of Year

August is small and cozy, making it perfect for romantic dinners. Reserve early, and request a seat in the glass enclosed garden.
We have eaten at this restaurant, located on the ground floor of a 19th-century townhouse, several times, including once in August!
The food has always been very good; the service has been equally fine.
Favorite Dish: The menu at August changes with the seasons.
On a recent wintery Saturday night I enjoyed a delicious English Curried Pumpkin Soup with toasted pumpkin seeds and cilantro. For $9 this was a bargain.
For my entree I ordered a pizza. Ordinarily served with a duck egg and duck skin, as vegetarian I asked that these features be left off and instead add more mushroom. The pizza was served on wooden cutting board. Delicious!
August: Every month is August
Although great any time of day, the ultimate Village brunch experience is here. The menu is not a mile long list of typical dishes, but what it lacks in quantity is made up 1000% in quality. Try to get the garden in the back (enclosed with a glass roof, so it can be August year round).
They also don't take reservations for brunch (and possibly for other meals too), so try to gauge a good time. Sunday at 12:30PM is going to be prime time- try 11:30AM.
The one (and only) thing about August which can be a sour note for some- the acoustics in the back garden dining room can make it hard to hear the person next to you if it's crowded. Still, if you savor the August experience, you'll be chewing more than talking.
Favorite Dish: As brunch goes, if you like eggs, they bake them in a wood oven here; there's also cast iron German pancakes (with plums), an amazing Rösti with gravlax and creme fraiche, plus French toast pain perdu. However, that was the menu when I went (today as of this post), but it does change, so it might be entirely different when you go (but the wood oven-baked eggs are always on the menu).
August is French, but expect more Alsatian French with some German and Swiss influences and even some Italian thrown in.
