This fine italian restaurant in Greenwich Village is yet another product of the Bastianich family. It is Lidia's son who opened the restaurant a few years ago and dedicated it to his then newborn child.
It is a good restaurant, although I found it too pretencious.
When I ate there, the service wasn't sharp, and the food was good but not superb as the pricetag would imply. The chef deserves credit for some creative experiments that, though sometimes exaggerated, are still appreciated. Excellent wine selection.
Overall, a pleasant experience.
Update (9-12-2004): this time service was excellent. The chef is still too adventurous, but still good. The groceries used are superb: try the mozzarella, when they have it: it's exactly how it is in Campania... becuase that's where it comes from, by plane.
Babbo Restaurant is in Grewich Vilage. The food is amazing very posh and the resaurant is beatiful. The food on the menu is very nice however if you are not willing to experiment then this restaurant is maybe not for you. I ate veil which was a big change for me other dishes include lobster, rabbit, boer etc. However the food is amazing.
Favorite Dish: I had the poppidelle bolognase which is veil and pork bolognase. This was wonderfull.
Great Italian farmhouse atmosphere with extremely authentic traditional Italian cooking. Excellent service. Reasonably priced for the quality. Under the direction of TV chef Mario Batali.
Favorite Dish: Braised lamb shank with cannellini (Italian white beans).
