Blue Fin: Breakfast in Times Square

The W Hotel in Times Square is about the only saving grace for this surprisingly barren wasteland of restaurants and bars. As well as the basement Whisky Bar, theyve got the trendy seafood eatery Blue Fin on the corner of 47th & Broadway. Cant comment on the signature seafood dishes, as we came here for breakfast and I dont suppose my sausage was caught in the Atlantic.

Usual American breakfast choices ie Eggs Any Style with blah di blah, with price reflecting the quality and service.

The reason for coming here early is simply for you to cadge a stool next to the floor to ceiling glass windows, and feel like youre eating IN Times Square.

Its like having a living room on the sidewalk and for 20mins you can watch cops, tourists, beggars & tour bus advertisers go about their day. (Obviously no New Yorker would be seen dead round here...).

$20 each is a pricey breakfast in the US, but in the UK (11 UK pounds) it probably wouldnt buy you a Little Chef on the A6109 out of Rotherham.

Favorite Dish: Jug of vanilla coffee, toast, juice, eggs & sausages for $20 and a view like this...

Cool way to start the day and see Times Square without the crowds.

Very cool design and hip decor help set the pace at this great reataurant. If you can't get a table, there is a sushi bar downstairs, but if you can, try to get a spot upstairs. The place is very cozy and there's a live band that keeps the rhythm going in between the temptuous courses of fresh seafood. Don't be surprised, the portions aren't huge but if you want to feed from a trough go to an all you can eat buffet. Instead expect top quality ingredients prepared exactly as you request. (General diners tip: no matter where you go, never ask for anything well done - you will ALWAYS get the worst specimens the kitchen can find, because you won't recognize it anyway!)
We enjoyed, the foie gras, crabcakes, shrimp, and salmon. With a nice bottle of merlot, it was fantastic! I look forward to going again.

Favorite Dish: Foie gras with rhubarb chutney. Crab cakes with asparagus and frisee.
