If you find yourself on the Upper West Side towards the end of the afternoon or early evening, head to the Boat Basin Café for a drink and to watch the sun set over the Hudson River. Located in Riverside Park, the café has open and covered seating areas overlooking the marina. When we were there the area closest to the water was reserved for diners (seating is on a first come basis, there are no reservations) but we although we only wanted a drink we were able to get a good table just inside which gave us a lovely view of the sunset. The beer selection was reasonable and the sight of the Hudson and the New Jersey skyline beyond made this a rather different setting for our customary pre-dinner drink.
We didn’t eat here but it seemed to be a popular spot for families and groups. The menu is pretty standard burgers and sandwiches etc, plus a number of items cooked on the barbeque, from which rather appetising smells were drifting towards us.
NB The café closes in the winter months
