Pylos: East Village: Rustic Greek Home Cooking
After eating out every weekend for years of living here in New York City, this restaurant has turned out to be my All Time Favorite. Pylos, pronounced Pee-los, is in the East Village.
The food at this place is to say the least--DIVINE. Diane Kochilas is the consulting chef and Athens' Greece most respected authority on food. Her columns appear in Ta Nea, Greece's largest daily newspaper. Her articles have appeared in the New York Times, the LA Times, and Gourmet magazine.
The food is absolutely deliciious. I have yet to try a dish that disappoints me. Check out their website (listed below) and do at least two things at the site. One, visit the dinner menu and relish the combinations of rustic Greek delicacies and the amazing reasonable prices. Two, click the horizontally moving image across the bottom linking to the new store photos and imagine feeling your back against the pillows, looking at the hanging clay pots, and enjoying New York City's best Greek cooking. Beats the competition in Midtown by a long shot.
Favorite Dish: The arugula salad with curls of spicy Greek cured beef and aged shaved mountain sheep's milk cheese. Every bite is mouth watering!
The Napoleon--with crisp baked layers of phylo pastry filled with cherry yogurt mousse and drizzled with Greek sour cherry syrup.
